While there his daughter Freda Nottingham and a girl friend Rosamond Tiedgen from Springfield Massachusetts, spent a few days visiting - ~with=--the- Williams and son Jerry Bowers were unable to be there. Figures released at the Township council meeting * September 22 indicate that there were permits issued in August for $592,000 worth of building, a substantial increase over - the $345,000 worth last August. But more significantly, the figures for August this year may be an indication that the in Scugog may be coming to an end. The $592,000 worth of permits issued in August is almost double the $264,000 worth of permits issued in July, and this could be good news for local contractors and retail building Sy outlets. : Spokesmen for both Like Scugog Lumber and Peter- borough Lumber in Port Perry told the Star last month that retail sales especially for new home "construction are off consi- derably from last year. The August figures suggest that there is an upsurge in new house con- struction as there were six permits issued for single family homes, as opposed to just three the month before. . Despite the increase in the August values, 1980 is still lagging far behind 1979. As of the end of last month, the total value of permits issued" in Scugog was $3,192,120, just slightly better than half the" $5,446,830 worth of permits issued to the end of August in 1979. A speedy recovery to Debby Chaisson and Jeff Abraham, who are patients in Oshawa General Hospital following a serious car accident on Friday night. A very successful Jack and Jill dance was held in the Utica Hall on Sept. 20th to help celebrated the forth- coming marriage of Bonnie Payne from Harper Valley to Jerry Reid of Bowmanville. The dance was arranged by Rick and Darlene Payne from Manilla. Guests were present from the Seagrave area, Oshawa, Toronto, Bowmanville and Port Perry.
