mt A massive family enter- tainment park now under construction just north of Toronto will force the Cana- dian National Exhibition to either improve or slip further downhill, suggests the public relations manager of Canada's Wonderland. Mike Filey told a meeting of the Scugog Chamber of Commerce last Wednesday night that Wonderland and the CNE offer different kinds of - entertainment, but he suggested that unless the CNE changes, it could be hurt by the new park which will open next May. The CNE was rocked this summer by sliding atten- dance, complaints from the public, and charges that its management structure is archaic and in need of stream-lining. In response to questions from the audience last week, Mr. Filey said the cost of admission will average $11.95 per day for an adult and this includes passes to 12 different rides or feature attractions inside the park. The package cost for children will be $9. Parking and food will be extra, but the family-style restaurants will be price competitive with other similar restaur- ants in Toronto, said Mr. Filey. Whatever the total cost for a family of four, Wonderland will be unique in Canada and the United States. Dominating the park is a 150 foot high man-made mountain complete with waterfall. There will be a variety of rides and attrac- tions for youngsters of all ages; two indoor theatres, one with 3500 seats, the other with 1200; parking for 12,000 cars; and fantasylands with themes based on the cartoon characters Fred Flinstone, Yogi Bear and other Hanna- Barbera productions. Throughout his address to the Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Filey stressed that great pains have been taken to make the park as physically attractive as possible. The landscaping budget, which includes 2000 trees is $12 million. Because as many as 40,000 people may visit the park on any given day, there will be a 16-bed infirmary, several restaurants and fast food outlets, and even an air-conditioned kennel where families can leave their pets fF A ---------------- a ATTENTION: Cake Decorators & Brides-to-Be * Your 'Cakes 'n Things' Store 224 KENT STREET WEST, LINDSAY will remain open for business Tuesdays to Saturdays under the new management 'SUGAR CHALET of NEWCASTLE commencing October 1st, 1980. When plans for Canada's Wonderland became public, there was considerable opposition from residents of nearby Maple and King City, and Mr. Filey said there is no doubt that the park will have a considerable impact on these areas. However, he said steps are being taken to reduce the impact of in- creased traffic in the area. Mr. Filey said that con- struction is right on schedule and the park will open May 23 next year. Will there be any spin-off benefits for communities in the area? ' In response to this ques- tion, Mr. Filey was cautious in his answer, saying that it is difficult to predict. But he did say that the park will attract many out of town visitors and they will need places to stay. - October 1st to October 11th, 1980 Pantyhose 'Knee Highs Support Stockings Support Panty Hose Hosiery FI SUMAN a 8-H SWS KAYSER'S FALL Ladies Childrens POSLUN COATS SWEATERS Cardigans - Pullovers - Vests FEMME FIT JEANS by Levi- GW.G.
