After nearly two years of hard work, the dream became a reality Sunday afternoon as members of the Port Perry Snowmobile Club officially opened their new club-house with a ribbon- cutting ceremony and reception. Situated on a two-acre parcel of land near. the Shirley Road south of Port Perry, the new club-house was built with the help of a Wintario grant, and all the labour was on a volunteer basis. The two-storey building contains a coffee shop-snack bar and large reception ared suitable for banquets and meetings on the main floor. It has a fully equipped kitchen.. On the second floor is a spacious executive room. During the winter months, the building will be open to snowmobilers and the general public, and presi- dent Bill Harper said on Sunday that everyone is welcome to "drop in, have a cup of coffee and get warm." The official opening on Sunday included a ribbon- cutting ceremony by Scugog Mayor Jerry Taylor who told the Club members: that the new building is a credit to their organization and an indication of the strength of the club in its promotion of the sport of snowmobiling. Actual construction of the building got underway in May, 1979, and although the club-house was used last winter, the finishing touches were not completed until this fall. It is ideally located on several snowmobile trails, and can be easily reached by snowmobile from Port Perry. With the aid of some key saves by goalie Stacey Ballingall, Port Perry completely dominated the third period. Brad Menzies completed his hat trick on a pass from John Lally. John Lally finished off the scoring with an unassisted effort. The future for the Malmont Farm team looks good this year. We have three solid lines and a good defence. Although Port's goaltenders had not been seriously tested prior to Friday's game, they proved against Pickering that both boys can come up with the important stops when they have to. Sunday, the Green Machine travelled to take on the strong Markham team. This time Port was at the losing end of a 5-2 score. Markham scored the only two goals in the opening TRAVELWAYS period. The score would have been worse without the great goaltending of Stacey Ballingall. Port Perry got the lone goal in the second period. Brad Menzies found the mark on a pass from John Lally. Once again goaltend- ing kept the score close. In the third period Mark- ham took control, scoring three goals. John Lally got the final goal of the game assisted by Brad Menzies. The Port Perry boys work- ed hard but were frustrated time and again by the fierce checking and great passing of the Markham team. It looks as though Markham will be the team to beat in the league this year. The Mal- mont Farm team is idle on Friday.
