The large symbolic 'cheque will be mailed to Terry Fox. 4 Cartwright High School by Caroline Carnaghan Cartwright High School's annual commencement exercises were held Satur- day evening. » The students were involved not only in receiving diplomas and awards, but they also enter- tained the audience with a band, a choir and a one act play. Cartwright is unlike any other school and this uniqueness is carried through to its commence- ment. Forty five percent of + the students were honour students and over half of the grade 13's were Ontario scholars. Impressive isn't it? Twenty - students received their grade 12 diplomas and ten students received their grade 13 diplomas. The Cartwright High School band, a new endeavour for C.H.S. began the program with Snowbird and We've Only Just Begun. Mr. Ray Ashton directed the Glee Club selections: Ready to Take A Chance Again, and Country Roads. The Valedictorian address was given by Brett Hardy, now attending the University of Western Ontario. When the young cancer victim set out last spring on his now famous Marathon of Hope, he said he wanted to raise $1 for every person in the country. - That wish has come true in Seugop. e Scugog Branch of the Canadian Cancer Society 'reports that about $16,000 has been collected from a large number of individuals young and old, groups, organizations and compan- ies in this Township. The local branch of the. Cancer Society says the response to the Marathon of Hope has been overwhelm- ing, and members express their gratitude to all those who worked towards raising money for this cause. The following is a final list of donations collected in the past month: $1,500.00 from the Royal walkathon to Blackstock; Crazy Quilters donated $20.00; R.H.
