A 3 E [ Hackney winne oh rat Fair Reflections Spotlight, owned by Bruce Lawson of Nestleton, captured second place in the Yearling Hackney class at the Royal Winter Fair. Reflections Golden Maid, a mare owned by Mr. Lawson was Junior Champion at the Fair this fall. Mr. Lawson recently sold Reflections Spotlight for what he called a "fancy price" to buyers from Hinckley, Ohio. The horse was bred by Ralph Sadler of Nestleton. . Two teams capture broomball honours by Robert Evans On 'November 16th, two - teams from the Port Perry Broomball 'League returned trophies after a tournament in Lefroy. C & B Livestock went undgfeated in four games to capture the °"A" division trophy, while the Utica Plow Jockeys won the "B" divi- sion trophy, with a record of three wins and one loss. A third entry from. the PPBA, Beacock's Hardware were eliminated after losing their second game in the tournament. 12C & B LIVESTOCK C & B-won their first two games by the same 1-0 score. Bill Bridge scored in the first game to defeat Alliston Sport, while Ken Davidson scored the only goal of the Belles win two by Marg White On Saturday November 15, 1980 the Port Perry Chris Allen Aluminum Belles play- ed host to Whitby. Port really came out skating and' checking and winning 10-0. Scoring for Port were Janice Jackman, 2 goals, Rhonda White 3-goals, Sharon Ash- more 2 goals, 1 assist, Bonnie Bridge 1 goal, 1 assist, Cheryl Doherty 1 goal, 3 assists, Daphne Butt 1 goal, 2 assists, with Janet Dean, Kelly Raines; and Val Kraupa each having an assist, On Sunday November 16, 1980 Port Perry Chris Allen Aluminum Belles travelled to Lindsay for the first time. Port just continued to skate and check well like on Satur- day and won their game 12-1. Scoring for Port Daphne Butt 2 goals, Doris Risebor- ough 1 goal and Rhonda White, Bonnie Bridge and Cheryl Doherty each having a hat trick with Bonnie Bridge having an assist also. Wendy - Burton and Cindy Heurkins played well in nets onlydetting in one goal in two games, _ston. 'second game against the -Spartans Cheesemen. C & B's third game was against their old rivals, the _ "home with two championship Ivy Rangers. "After regula- tion time' neither team was on the scoreboard, forcing the game into overtime. In overtime, the Ivy Rangers were the first to score, but C & B tied the game less than a minute later on a goal by Rob Evans. Ron' Redman converted a Bill Bridge pass with 40 seconds left in the overtime period and put C & B in the championship finals against Alliston Kave. The final game was a 4-2 victory for C & B over Alli- Bill Bridge was the outstanding player in this game, as he scored all four goals for C & B. UTICA PLOW JOCKEYS Utica entered the '"B" division after losing their first game in overtime to Molson's Canadiens by a 4-3 count. Mike Mole had two goals for Utica, while Jack Monsma picked up the other markers. Utica rebounded to a winning note in the second game by defeating the Blazers 2-0. Len McEnaney scored Utica's first goal with Jack / Monsma. getting the other tally on a rarely called penalty shot. . --In_the._third. game, Mike Mitchell * scored twice leading Utica to a 3-0 victory over Premier Container. Defenceman Gord Geer scored the third goal to advance Utica into the "B" division finals. In the final game Utica played smart, aggressive broomball, and soundly defeated Dorsey 6-0. Six different players managed to score for Utica in one of their better team efforts this season. 'BEACOCK'S HARDWARE Beacock's started off on the right foot by defeating Stroud in the first game 3-0. Newcomer, Kevin Ibbittson, has played well so far this season, and has added some scoring punch to Beacock's. by Doreen Kendall The highlight of ringette week was the annual ringette game against the Mayor and his councillors. The final whistle saw the Port Perry Ringettes on top of the 6-4 score. In the first period the Councillors and Mayor play- ed against Childrens Boutique. Scoring for the Councillors saw the Mayor put the ring away off a pass ~ from John "Tiger" Williams and Tiger Williams scored unassisted. "Gump" Rich- ard Drew held the Tweens scoreless. Three penalties were assessed in the first period with the Mayor pick- ing up a pair and Dorothy Robertson one. The referees had their hands full with the over exuberant members of the council. The second period saw ~ Ives Florist out-skate the councillors and both teams picked up a pair of goals. Scoring for Ives was Julie Abraham and Stephanie Butt both unassisted. Scoring for Council saw Jerry Taylor and Jerry Jackman both find the mark for singles. Six penalties were handed out four to cquncil and 2 to Ives. The third period saw Chris Allen Aluminum put Council ~-away---with=3 unanswered - goals. Try as the Mayor and his co-horts might they were no match for our "Belles". Scoring for the girls, Rhonda White with a pair and Sherri Allen with a single. Juniors lose 3-2 by Pat Armstrong Lady Luck had to bessitting on the 'shoulders of the Oshawa players on Sunday. Although the Ives Florist sponsored Juniors played a very good game they were not able to get the ring in the net for the all important tie breaking goal. The second game for Beacock's was a heartbreak- eras they lost 1-0 in overtime to the host team, Pauleana. Beacock's is a much improved team over last year and will no doubt soon be a solid contender in tournaments. goals. Good work girls. The Juniors have a busy week ahead of them with a game Wednesday night in Pickering and then on Satur- day on to Stayner for a tournament. Both the coach Bev Raines and myself have confidence that our girls will put forth a good showing at both these events. At the close of the game the Mayor and his team of Jerry Jackman, John Williams, John Wolters, Richard Drew, Don Crosier and Dorothy Robertson were thanked by Fred Canning and presented with a small momento of the evening's fun. We can't thank every- one enough for making this such a good event. Thursday evening at the Councillors game Mrs. Marg Waite from Nonquon Travel was introduced at centre ice to kick off the Ringette's major fund raising drive, "A trip to Vegas." Mayor Taylor bought the first ticket and the draw will be made on Feb. 28 at our annual Ring- ette dance. Juveniles lose by Danny Millar A strong thitd period comeback bid fell two goals short when Markham held on to take an 8-6 win over Port Perry Emiel's Place Juveniles in a Lakeshore hockey league game Friday, November 21 in Markham. Port skated off at the end of the second period down 8-2 but rallied with four goals over the closing 15 minutes. Until then they had been outplayed. Port Perry played the game in sporadic stages. They led 2-0 for the first seven minutes of the opening period but eased up; allowing - Markham to tie it before they ended. Goaltender John Thomp- son made a routine stop on a soft shot by Brian Dickson but he allowed the puck to come out to Brian Mikkelsen who slipped in the rebound 52 seconds after the opening NIS face-off. Mikkelsen made it 2-0 with his second of three goals at 7:06 of the first period when he carried the puck around the net and deposited it in the short side behind Thompson. Dickson took three penal- ties in the first period, all minor, and all costly. Each time he was off, Markham scored. Greg Davies got the first power play goal 35 seconds after Mikkelsen scored. Just under six minutes left in the period, Dickson received a double minor for high sticking and unsports- Hodgson put a foot high wrist shot in behind Glenn Archi- bald to tie it. Hodgson scored at 1:20 of the second period while Dickson was off again. It was a high slap shot over Archibald's glove, just under the cross bar.
