Regional councillors, which at the same time has pro- posed that the Regional levy charged to developers be trimmed from the present $2740 per lot to $2147, This reduction also needs Regional council approval at the regular meeting this Wednesday in Whitby. Scugog Mayor Jerry Taylor attended the joint committee meeting last week and said he voted in favour of the proposed increases in the water rates. "We really had no other ~ choice," he said after the meeting. "The loss of deve- lopment levy revenues this ° year and next will mean a deficit." Mayor Taylor said that the staged increases over two years in water rates would cushion users from a very large increase in 1982, The Regional finance . department had recom- mended that water rates go up 20 per cent in 1981 and six ~per cent the following year, but regional councillors felt 20 per cent would be too high for a single year. Large industries which receive a bulk rate discount will face the same 17 per the committees decided against the recommenda- tions from the Regional staff to reduce the discount rate. *FLOATS *FREE CANDY (For the Kids at Latcham Centre) cent hike as homeowners, as . Santa's Helpers _.Two Port Perry businessmen; Bill Barr. .left, and. Jim Grieve are helping: the "Scugog Chamber of Commerce in their efforts on the Santa Claus Parade this year. The men have sponsored the hiring of two large bands for the parade; which is being held on Saturday, November 29. The Canadiana Accordian Band is comprised of 36 members plus 20 majorettes, and the Rebels Drum and Bugle Corp has 60 members. By hiring these bands, Mr. Barr and Mr. Grieve have helped to defer the high cost of running the parade. Miriam Price, president of the Scugog Chamber of Commerce accepted their cheques last week. There will be at least a dozen bands in the Parade, including the Uxbridge Legion Pipe Band, Danny Reesor Band, the 60-strong Rebels: Drum and Bugle Corps, the popular Lindsay- Kawartha Majorettes, the Port Perry Clown Band, Army and Navy Cadet bands from Oshawa, and others. For the youngsters, the Parade will have at least 23 floats depicting all kinds of Christmas themes stories. Clowns and old cars will provide some laughter, and old Saint Nick will have bags of candy for the kids at Latcham Centre when the Parade winds up.
