a 16 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tues., December 30, 1980 Humiliating defeat! Bruins dump MoJacks in penalty filled game It was supposed to be Family Fun Night at the Port Perry MoJack Junior C game December 21, but the only fun was on the ice for the visiting Uxbridge Bruins who romped to a 16-4 victory. The MoJacks dug them- selves an early grave with a series of foolish penalties in the first ten minutes of the game, and the Bruins took full advantage to score five power play goals by the 11:44 mark. From then on, it was just a matter of how many goals the visitors would score. Port Perry played almost the entire first period with men in the penalty box, and the Bruins outshot the home town team 16 to 3. After slapping six pucks behind beleagured Port Perry goalie Ray Gibson in the first period, the Bruins went to the attack again in the middle frame and added five more, three of them coming with a MoJack in the penalty box. Early in the third, the Bruins notched two more markers, before Peter Griffiths finally found the range for the MoJacks beat- ing Bruin goalie Joe Kea with a back-hand after taking a pass from Bryan "Nicholson. The Bruins added to their total with three more goals to make the score 16-1 when Nicholson scored for the MoJacks at 16:03, and then Charlie Brown popped one in 15 seconds later. Dave Alexander, who was probab- ly the hardest working MoJack in the game, round- ed out the scoring at 17:54 on a power play to make the final 16-4. ModJacks were outshot 51-20 in the game. The beating was the worst the MoJacks have taken in what has been a dismal season. The bad penalties hurt the team, including a senseless misconduct to ° [ Legionaires (From page 14) The Pee Wees hosted Bowmanville on Friday, December 18 at home. After the first period with the score tied at three, we knew we were in for a high scoring game. All of Port's goals were scored on super passing plays. Although the third period got very rough, the boys kept skating, passing and shooting to finish the game with an 11-6 win. Scoring for Port were Dave Burnett with a hat trick and two assists, Craig Menzies with two goals and three assists, Jim White with two goals and one assist. Steven Durham and Lee Wilbur each had one goal and one assist. Andy Sytsma had a singleton. Greg Warriner topped the assists with four, Tim Cannon had two assists, Karl Durham, Robbie Baker, John Harmon and Jeff Cockerton each had one assist. The Pee Wees and management wish everyone a joyous holiday season. They will be back in action on Friday, January 2 at 9:00 when they will host Lindsay. Mike Albrecht who flipped the puck at the linesman after the play had been stopped in the second period. However, the Bruins were full marks for the win, show- ing good hustle at all times, and moving the puck with' ease with crisp passes and fast breaks. The loss came on the heels of a 4-4 tie three nights earlier in Lakefield, a game in which the MoJacks fell behind 4-0 in the first period, but battled back in the second and third frames. MoJacks are currently tied for eighth place with Bewdley in the ten team league, fighting for the final play-off spot. Although the MoJacks have several games in hand over Bewd- ley, they must put some points on the board or stand a good chance of missing the play-offs. The MoJacks played Lind- say on December 28 (see separate story) and visit Uxbridge on December 30. The next home game for the MoJacks is on New Years Day against the tough Bow- manville Eagles with face- off at 1:30 p.m. MoJacks tie Muskies 5-5 by Danny Millar Port Perry MoJacks turned a 3-0 lead into a 4-3 Lindsay Muskies advantage but rallied with a fluke goal late in the hockey game to earn a 5-5 tie in the Junior C contest at Port Perry on Sunday, December 28. The game was the first without former Coach Clare 'Butch' Potts, who-was let go following a 16-4 loss to Uxbridge a week ago. He is succeeded by assistant Paul Kane, who was used as a spotter in the stands until now. Mike Adams retains his spot as coach. While one member was leaving the MoJack's, another was coming. Defenceman Bill Owen, who had been sidelined this entire season, returned to the blue line corps. Owen played with the Port Perry entry in the Lake Scugog League earlier this winter. He is noted for his hard shot from the blue line and his exuberant aggressiveness. He picked up a pair of minor penalties and both resulted in Lindsay goals, as were five other markers during the contest. Owen did not come out for the third period of the match. The MoJacks held a 3-0 upper hand after Charlie Brown scored from the front of the net on a power play. Earlier, defenceman John Robertson had scored on a good back hand and Al Lewko struck on Robertson's shot from the point. There were some rough moments during the contest, most of them provided by feisty Port winger David Canning. He took on Joe "Barrieau at the 13:00 mark of the first period and liter- ally punched out the high scoring Muskie forward. Canning ended up with a triple minor for his troubles. Barrieau scored on his rebound as Owen was sitting out an elbowing penalty at 9:19 of the second period to put Lindsay on the score- board in the frame they totally dominated. Minutes later Owen went off for roughing and was quickly followed to the penalty box by Carl Dur- ward, forcing Port to a two- man disadvantage for 1:32. Barrieau scored his second goal during that span as he knocked in 'a Don Brown rebound on a two-on-one after Port Perry's Charlie Brown was caught up ice. Brown was also serving a penalty when John Myers of Lindsay uncorked a hard shot from the boards to goalie. Ray Gibson's left to tie the game with 2:01 to go in the middle period. Gibson was screened on the shot. Barrieau- added. his. third power play goal of the period with 30 seconds left. That second period was the most wide open of the three as each goaltender (Dan Mitchell for Lindsay) faced 18 shots. In all, Mitchell caught a glimpse of 40 pucks shot in his direction while Gibson contended with four less. Left Winger Dave Alexan- der pocketed a rebound at 7:02 of the final session as Port came back to tie it. Dave Harrison replied to give Lindsay a 5-4 lead but" Brian Nicholsen was very fortunate to earn the single point for the MoJacks on the last goal at 17:29. Mitchell had intended to clear the puck out to a defenceman but instead put it onto Nichol- sen's stick for an easy goal. Port defeat Woodville by Paul VanCamp On Saturday, December 20, Port Perry hosted Wood- ville for their fourth meeting of the year. All previously had been won quite handily by Woodville. But the _ George Stone Realtors turn- ed the tide and defeated them 3-2 with Chris Cookman in net for Port. Port started with all of their goals in the first half of the game. Then settled down to defence. Ron Brown started it off after a good pass from Boyd Vanderheul. Brown and Jim Abraham then set up Karl Durham for the second goal. Ron Brown then notched his second on a breakaway after a great check. The teams left the ice after the second period for a break, the score was then was 3-0. Woodville got two unanswered goals in the final frame but Port held them there. Final score was 3-2 for Port Perry.
