Any girl who will be 12 by the first of February and wish- ing to join please phone Mrs. Helen Hortop or Mrs. Ann Chandler. The study and practical development will be around the important food item, eggs. They will also try to reach a conclusion as to which comes first, the chicken or the egg. Our sympathy is extended to two ladies who were bereaved of brothers last week. Mrs. Elsie Pogue's brother lived in Lindsay and Mrs. Camille - Crozier's brother was in Sask. where she travelled for the funeral. We were sorry to hear the lovely home of Mr. and Mrs. Bolahood, south of the Port View Beach at the Head was completely destroyed by fire on Monday night last week. The ladies of the Institute have been very busy with their accomplishments in the recent course in stitchery and will have a showing in Uxbridge in February. More _ details later. Last Monday afternoon the Executive of the Head U.C.W. met at the home of Jan 'Gerrow when they reviewed prices and set dates for the known year's activities. So far, we know of four Island weddings, in the Spring or summer. activity dates will be published later when approved by the whole U.C.W. Don't forget Women's Institute tonight (Wed.) Mr. Leo Blueman of the Handicraft Guild hold Jan. meeting by Jo Dowson The first meeting of the new year was held on Wednesday January 14 in St. John's Church Hall. The regular business was conducted after which those present were given instruct- ion in the various stitches used in crewel embroidery. Our capable teachers were Alva Thompson and Lillian Harper. The February meeting is to be a workshop in Crewel putting to good use this month's instruction. Members are asked to note that the workshop will commence at 10 a.m. on Feb. 11. The Guild is providing the material to be embroidered. Each person taking part is asked to supply their own needles, hoops and yarns in their own colour choices. We trust he will soon be able to return home. Mrs. Cora Heayn, former- ly a resident at the Head has been in the Port Perry Hospital for a couple of weeks possibly as the result of a flu attack. This is a great winter project and interest is growing fast.
