Mr. and Mrs. Jim Marlow have returned home from a short holiday in Florida where they visited Jim's parents Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Marlow at Brapdon. Mr. and Mrs. Marlow's friends will be pleased to know that they are both well. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Graham spent several days last week in Toronto attend- ing the Milk Producer's Con- vention. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Jack Peacock who celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in the Blackstock Recreation Centre on Saturday evening. Friends, relatives and neigh- bours joined in at this happy event. On Saturday at the local arena the Blackstock Minor Hockey Beacock Novice team played the Dowsons Red and White Atom Team. It was a good game in-which the Atoms were surprised that the Novice team was a little toughter than they had expected and that they didn't run away with the game as they had expected. Score was Dowson-3, Beacock-0. Special thanks to the fine number of parents who came out to support the. team. Don't forget Jan. 31 our Marlow Feed Bantam B team will be at Manvers arena for a Tournament. We ask that as many supporters and parents come to cheer. The first game will be at 8 a.m. sharp. The afternoon meeting of Blackstock U.C.W. held its first meeting for the new year at Mrs. Harold Martin's onJan. 13 at 1:15 p.m. after a dessert of breads and tea and social time. Mrs. Murray Byers opened the meeting with a poem for the New Year. The Roll Call was "A goal we should aim at' and "paying the fee", several had birthday money to put in the box. The minutes of the last meeting were read by Mrs. Walter Wright and approved, and some corres- pondence was read. Mrs. Standford VanCamp had the worship that included passage from the Bible with good thoughts for the year ahead and read the Hymn of All Nations offering was taken and dedicated. Mrs. Walter Wright had the theme and we discussed some things from the observer on the year of the handicapped. Mrs. Van Camp closed the meeting with a prayer. On Saturday Roy McLaughlin, Harold McLaughlin, Cameron Porter and Dale Van CAmp enjoyed a very successful day of curling at Ops. They won their three games and brought home second prize. Envelopes are Thompsons and Beacocks. Blackstock Nursery School began the New Year with a meeting on the 14th of Jan. with 22 members present. All members seemed to have weathered the cold Christ- mas Holidays well. We now look forward to the second annual Valentine Dance. We had such a success last year. U.AW.-6 Scugog Lumber-4 In the second game it was U.A.W. defeating Scugog Lumber by a score of 6-4. Scoring for U.A.W. was Shawn Nanay with 4 goals and one assist, Jim Vernon with 2 goals, assists went to Kevin Gibson with one. Scoring for Scugog Lumber was Joey Jackman with a hat trick and Blair Bailey with one goal, assists went to Mike Ash with 2, Terry Bache with 2 and Ron Davis with 2. NOVICE HOUSE LEAGUE by Don Steele Scugog Realty-5 Sportsland-0 This game remained scoreless for most of the first period until Jason Parson scored unassisted with 59 seconds remaining on the clock. Tight checking per- sisted throughout the second period as only one goal was scored. Jason Parson again found the mark, with assists going to Richard Larocque AR Rudd's great grandchildren Korin, Brett and Landon Drew of Port Perry. Mrs. Rudd was born in England and Ryan Free. Sportsland's hopes of evening the match were soon finished however, as the Realtors came in to score three more in the third period. Gregory Brawn scored just 37 seconds into the period, then Jeff Parry netted one at the mid-point. Both of the markers were unassisted efforts. Finally, Jason Parson got the hat trick assisted by Jeff Parry. Shawn Larocque was in net for the shut-out for the Realtors. Kinsmen-4 Reliable Plumbing-3 Reliable Plumbing jumped into an early lead with Brad Fertile scoring unassisted at and came to Canada in 1910. the 44 second mark of the first period. With 3:25 re- maining, Mark Andrews net- ted one from Philip Teno. However Kinsmen came back in the second period, scoring three times, and going ahead by one. The goals were scored by Bill Ruddell from Jason Coch- rane, Jason Towns from Chris Forder, then the go- ahead marker by Aaron Cochrane assisted by Jason Cochrane. The Plumbers then tied the match at three on a fine effort by Mark Andrews. However, at 7:15 Kinsmen put the game on ice with Chris Forder finding the mark, assisted by Aaron Cochrane and Bill Ruddell. Three wins for Legionaires by Carol Wilbur On Friday, Jan. 6 the Pee Wee Legionaires travelled to Stouffville. Steven Whalen came up with several excel- lent saves and the boys came home with a 3-1 win. Scoring for Port were Tim Cannon, Robby Baker and Craig Menzies with a goal each. John Harmon, Steve Durham, David Burnett and Greg Warriner each had an assist. On Friday, Jan. 16 the Legionaires travelled to Cobourg. John Moore stood the opposition on their ear by making saves that were sure goals. The game went end to end for a period and a half. Lee Wilbur scored on a whizzing slapshot from the point. Jim White and David Culbert drew the assists. The Legionaires came home with a 1-0 win. On Sunday Jan. 18 the boys travelled to Brooklin for an exhibition game where they played Whitby. Steven Whalen played half the game and made several good saves. In this poorly refereed contest, Port came home with a 4-2 win. The game went scoreless until the third period.
