Church service this Sunday is in Epsom Church at 11:30 a.m., Sunday School at Utica is at 10:00 p.m. Hats off to Utica's boy of the week Todd Wilbur. On Saturday his Port Perry High School Basketball team won the L.0.S.S.A. Cham- pionship which was held at Durham College and on Sat- urday night at the Mojack Jr. C. dance was presented with a trophy for the Rookie of the Year on their hockey team. Congratulations. Mr. and Mrs. Hillis Wilbur and Lee were Sunday supper guests with Mr. and Mrs. Doug Moore of Port Perry. Freeze- out winners were Mildred Thompson and Hardy Noble and 2nd to Esther and Bruce Houghland. There will be another euchre in two weeks time. Last week I saw some very definite signs of Spring and thought I'd share them with my readers. On Tuesday while on my way to Port Perry there were what looked to me Canada geese flying overhead. On Friday on my way to Uxbridge, low and behold there was a gentleman out playing golf at the Foxhead and farther into town another man was raking leaves and debris from his lawn only in his shirt sleeves. Mrs. Judy Whitford of Oshawa was a week-end guest with Mr. and Mrs. Earl Fielding and Bill. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Walker of Scarborough were Sunday visitors with the MacSween family. Obituary ARTHUR JOHN CARL AVERY The death of Arthur John Carl Avery of Raglan occurred suddenly Thursday January 15th, 1981 at Oshawa Hospital. Born at Enfield June 19th, 1903, he was the son of the late William and Catherine Avery. He moved to Raglan as a young boy and attended Raglan Public School. On March 16th, 1927 he married the late Fern Wilson and farmed all his life until his retirement in 1963. He then worked for a time for East Whitby Township and E.P. Taylor Farms. In 1952 and 1953 he served oh the council of East Whitby. At the time of his death, he was a 30 year member of Beethoven 100F, No. 165 Brooklin, a member of Brooklin Fair Board and a member of Port Perry, Brooklin and Oshawa Senior Citizens Club. He was also a very active member of Raglan United Church. He is survived by his second wife, Irene Barker, two daughters, Audrey, Mrs. Lloyd Rozell of Oshawa; Edna, Mrs. Elwood Manns, Raglan and five grand- children, Douglas and Harold Manns, Patrica, Mrs. James O'Connor and Colin Manns, also two sisters, Mrs. George Bray and Mrs. Floyd Miller. Ly Services were held at McDermott Panabaker, Port Perry on Monday Jan. 19th. Interment Pine Grove Cemetery. ____Rev. John Hijll and Rev. Robert Brawn officiated. Palbearers were Leonard Slute, Harold Luke, John Howden, Stanley Moffatt, Walter Beath, Dr. John McKinney. Honorary palbearers were Norman Birkett, Archie Campbell, John Kellington, Donald Linton, Edgar Tremble, Gordon Corner. HELPFUL HINT If you live alone, keep your phone on a very low table. Many guests enjoyed the display of Crafts at the Crewel Embroidery Open House in Uxbridge Arena. Many thanks go to all mem- bers who made this such a success! Nineteen groups showed their skills. Twenty- one ladies attended the Greenbank classes. Eight members of Green- bank Women's Institute attended the 25th anniver- sary of Bethesda Reach W.I. in Uxbridge Music Hall last Wednesday. Everyone en- joyed the excellent pro- gramme and the beautifully decorated birthday cake. Donna Irwin, Dorothy Simpson and Helen McKeen motored to Oshawa to attend a baby shower for Sally Obituary HAROLD BAYLIS A massive coronary suddenly took the life of retired farmer Harold Baylis. The resident of R.R.3 Uxbridge, passed away on Sunday, January 11, at the age of 75. He was born in England on February 27, 1905. On May 22, 1933 he wed Irene Spoff- ard who predeceased him August 4, 1977. Mr. Baylis, a member of the United Church of Canada lived in Uxbridge Township from 1920 until 1981. He will be missed by son Lester Baylis of R.R.3 Uxbridge; daughters Mrs. Isobel McLeod of Courtice, Ontario and Mrs. Helen Cressman of Kitchener, Ontario; sister Hettie Fry of England and seven grand- children. January 13, 1981 the funeral service was held at the Low and Low Chapel in Uxbridge with Rev. John Roundell officiating. The pall bearers were Franklin Phoenix, Douglas Foster, Richard Trotter, Arthur Barwell and William Morgan. Interment Bethel Cemetery, Greenbank. Bishop, their hostess being Sally's Aunt - Anne Wills. Miss Kathy Cookman of St. Catherines arrived home with a badly sprained ankle. Mrs. Muriel Gibson and family attended the funeral of her nephew; Mr. Don Thomas in Toronto recently. Mr. and Mrs. John Phoenix and daughter Stacie were Sunday guests in the village. It was another Happy Day for the Wm. Stones on Sunday. Grandaughters - Betty Joe Bradley and Holly Shawna Stone were chris- tened.the families gathered at Mr. and Mrs. Willie Stone's during the afternoon to help celebrate this happy occasion with Great Grand- mother Mrs. Cambel Stone of Sunderland, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Wil- son of Balsam called on Mr. and Mrs. A. McMillan on Sat- urday. On Sunday Mr. and " Mrs. Howard McMillan, Mr. and Mrs. Armour McMillan and Mrs. Mabel Stevens visited with Mr. and Mrs. Robert McMillan in Oshawa. A family gathering of the Lee's was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Murray Lee on Sunday. Garry, Charlene and grandaughter Kelly are visiting from the north. 4 «4a Hi ATTENTION Mrs. Roundell's sister and husband Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Gallant of Toronto were week-end guests at the manse. Handicraft Guild meet Due to the weather Feb- ruary's meeting of the Pot- pourri Handicraft Guild was held on Wednesday 18th. Assilent auction took place, and a loaf of bread, a book, and a giant stuffed elephant, were among some of the items that were sold. A demonstration of rug braid- ing was given. Some of the members part- icipated at the flea market at the High School. A very attractive table was set up and the ladies that attended ] had an enjoyable time.
