Perry «= + Malmont Farms Atoms to dispatch Stouffville 6-2 and win the opening round eight team round robing at Scugog Arena, Sunday March 22. Feasby scored the first two and Brown the last pair in another solid, well rounded effort by Port Perry's power- house team of ten and eleven year olds. They also received standout netminding from Stacy Ballingall. Very few teams in this age bracket play a two way game as well as Port Perry. Its forechecking is strong but the backchecking is nearly flawless. The swift skating forwards came back to break up Stouffville plays inside the Port blue line repeatedly. When Stouffville did have close chances Ballingall came up with the save. Kirk Smythe took advantage of Port's inability to move the puck of its own zone with 4:19 remaining in the second period. He slipped the third shot past Ballingall, who had made two fine stops on previous shots. Stouffville got its only other tally with 20 seconds remaining. But the remainder of the match went as prescribed for Port. Feasby broke open the scoreless game at 7:06 of the first period when Port won a draw in the Stouffville zone and he banged a shot in behind Scott Evans. ' It was the only goal of the first period but Ballingall kept it that way with a good save on Kent Smythe on the short side and 'a follow up' shot hit the post. Port gained the edge in the second period, outscoring the visitors 3-2 as Feasby collected his second and first year wing Darryl Leather- dale scored. Feasby gave the puck away in his own end and then regained possession, carrying it the length of the ice to score. Leatherdale was left wide open in front of Evans to put in a centering pass from the boards to Evans' left. Defenceman Warren Geer made a pair of plays that belied his youth in the second period. On the first, he rushed in from his point position to pick up a loose puck and ended up with a good scoring - chance. And then on the ensuing Stouffville rush he broke up the play with a stick check before they could reach Port territory. John Lally, who had three assists, swept around the defence on the left wing and spotted Mike Sorley, another first year forward, alone in front and passed off for a picturesque passing play late in the period. Brown's goals in the third period put the icing on the cake as Port took round robin honours. Centerman Lally passed out from behind the net to him in front and he pumped the quick shot behind Evans. Port Perry needed more points in the 14 games than Uxbridge got in order to advance to the next round. Port Perry finished the 14 game set (they met each of the seven other teams twice) with 12 wins and a tie, suffering only one loss. That's an astounding total of 25 out of a possible 28 points. Millar Port Perry High School's Track and Field team made its second appearance of the season Wednesday, March 18 when seven runners competed with little success at an all comers meet at the indoor track at the Civic Auditorium in Oshawa. None of the seven members placed in the top of their heats, which included 400 meter sprints and a 1500 meter "metric" mile. Four of the runners ran the 400 and none finished higher than third out of four in their heats. Two first year girls also ran the -1500 meter which followed and were obviously tired. Of the seven members who have been training since January, four are first year students and at least one, Hank Stock, looked good in Uxbridge finishing in sixth position out of ten in the 1500 timed section. This race was dominated by high school senior and competitive club runners, making Stoch's performance look brighter. Chriss Hoog finished last in the same heat while senior Dan Millar took fourth place. Third place was taken by Andrea Prazmouski, one of the top female athletes in LOSSA. The sprinters and field events members started practicing last week as well. As usual, the Lake Ontario Secondary School Assoc- iation meet will be held in early May.
