Centre, Wednesday, May 27, at 6 p.m. (festivities were held in Blackstock, due to renova- tions re- Nestleton Commu- nity Centre.) Greeting and Registering the guests at the door were President Mrs. L. Malcolm, Mrs. J. Wygerde and Mrs. R. France. After the guests were seated at the Banquet table President Mrs. L. Malcolm extended warm words of welcome to all and the Women's Insti- tute Grace was sung followed by a toast to Her Majesty the Queen - and the Queen was sung. Dinner was served by six girls namely: Debbie Lee, Theresa Wygerde, Laurie Malcolm, Lynn Mc Laughlin, Karen France and Virginia Frew, supervised by Mrs. M. Fallis. Mrs. M. Bruce and three gentlemen assisted as well. Mrs. D. Frew, Ist Vice-President was the execellent banquet con- vener. During the dinner hour Mr. Lawrenee Malcolm played old time favourites on the Organ. Head table guests were WA my Eby aad FOFRALLAEL NA decorated by Mrs. Glenn Malcolm. The W.I. colours, Royal blue and gold, were carried out and compli- mented the Anniversary setting throughout. Intermission During this period guests admired displays arranged by Mrs. R. Davison. Many enjoyed a visit with friends. Pictures were taken to mark 1 ¢ the event. Interested friends joined the W.1. members for the program which commenced at 8 p.m. with an historical Skit entitled '75 Years of Achievement' portraying the different styles down through the years from 1906-1981, inter- spersed with readings and solos. Poems by Mrs. A, Andringa and Mrs. W. Bolan, members of Nestleton W.I. were featured. Miss Gail Malcolm was soloist singing many songs of yester year - "Loves Old Sweet Song' - "The Old Refrain" and "The Second Minuet". Those taking part were as follows: Commentator and organizer - Mrs. L. Malcolm wearing a _, ; becoming long black gown period. Mrs. D. Frew wore a 1906 swim suit and cover up. Cawker Past Provincial Board Director and news reporter for the area. Former Presi- dents: and Secretary- Treasurers present were introduced. Mrs. F. Watson brought greetings from West Durham and presented a Plaque from the Provincial Government to the Sec'y - Treasurer Mrs. M. Firlit of Nestleton. Mrs. Firlit replied graciously and stated it would be hung in Nestleton . Community Centre where the meetings are held. An old time sing song was a feature. The cake cutting ceremony was most impres- lace wedding gown from 1950 era. Mrs. R. Davison was fetching in a 1928 trousseau dress. Lynn McLaughlin was a charmer in a pale blue mini dress from 1973 Bride's Trousseau. Mrs. W. Bolan represented the Flappers of the roaring 1930's. Mrs. F. Dayes modelled a 1948 attractive housecoat for leisure hours. Theresa Wygerde wore a jogging suit - the craze to-day. Mrs. H. McLaughlin a lovely blue velvet mid-calf 1950 dress. Mrs. R. Nottingham wore a Caftan with grace. Debbie Lee - blue jeans for comfort. Mrs. G. Thompson - the last model - a trouseau night gown from 1870 era, the oldest authentic costume (never worn due to groom's tragic death prior to the wedding) An appropiate closing poem '"The Womens Institute Answers" by the late Mrs. Roy Langmaid, and received a standing ovation. _ Presentations Mrs. M. Wiseman, Bowmanville, Area Vice- President, presented nine members with a Certificate of Appreciation and a gold Monogram Pin for many years of continuous service to Nestleton W.I. Mrs. J. Wygerde, Nestleton, assisted in the presentation. (Members regret Mrs. A. Beacock was unable to be present due to illness) Those honoured and the number of years of service given - as follows: Mrs. Grant Thompson 45 years - Mrs. Harry Mc Laughlin 38 years - Mrs. George Bowers 35 years - Mrs. Wilfred Jackson 34 years - Mrs. Lawrence Malcolm 32 years - Mrs. Richard Davison 31 years - Mrs. Cecil Wilson 30 years - Laughlin [38 yrs.]; Mrs. George Bowers [35 yrs.]; Mrs. Wilfred Jackson [43 yrs.]. Back left, Mrs. Miss Ruth Proutt, a Life member was presented with a beautiful floral arrange- ment as a tribute for 42 years service. Guest Speaker The speaker for the even- ing was Mrs. Evelyn Moore of Oakwood. She was intro- duced by Mrs. Will Ashton. Mrs. Moore taught school for 25 years and is now conduct- ing tours. She is a very busy lady with many accomplish- ments to her credit. She congratulated the Nestleton W.I. re -75 years of progress and related many humorous stories which were much enjoyed. She spoke on '"The Year of the Disabled - 1981" giving members an insight into the work and some statistics re-disabled and handicapped were given and what can be done to assist and encourage them. She [29 yrs.]. service. A most able, delightfull speaker leaving the members and friends of Nestleton Women's Institute with much food for thought. Mrs. F. Dayes presented her with a gift - as a memento of the occasion. Appreciation was voiced by Mrs. Don Frew to the President and her committee for extensive planning, etc. Approxi- mately 75 people were present at this memorable Anniversary party. Coffee and cake was served. O Canada was sung! As another chapter is closed in the Nestleton Women's Institute and much has been accomplished over the 75 year period, may the Nestleton members be challenged to have vision for the future and carry on the same tradition in the years to come and shine brightly "For Home and Country".
