Rededication Church Service. Sympathy is extended to the family 'and relatives of Mrs. Reta (Milner) Chandler who spent all of her life on Scugog Island and passed away a week ago after a lengthy illness in hospital. She will certainly be missed by all who knew and loved her. Raymond Fralick is in the Oshawa hospital and' recup- erating well after surgery. We trust he will soon be active again. Mrs. Ethel Freeman's mother Mrs. Day was re- turned to the Port Perry hospital. She did not recover as well as had been hoped for at time of writing she was in a coma. On Wednesday evening 20 members of the Scugog Pastoral Charge met at the Island Church to present recomendations and discuss future plans. On Saturday evening Mr. and Mrs. Joe Dowson enjoy- ed a church supper at Pleasant Point and met with former Island residents. The Sunday Island Church Service was a high light that had been planned for some time as the culmination of many hours of dedicated labour and grateful dona- tions received from interest- ed people to renovate and improve God's house in an effort to make it more work- able and attractive. Although some donors found it impossible to attend, we welcomed some from Port Perry, Oshawa, Whitby, Toronto, Curve Lake and Sunderland. As the children were finished with. Sunday School, there was an absence noted among many young parents. However little ones were well cared for by Jan Gerrow. Arrangements of flowers which brightened the church were in memory of Mrs. Reta Chandler who was well known to Island people. The Jr. and Sr. Choirs numbered 20 people as they can depend on several friends in time of need and they all did excep- tionally well with the musical accompaniments of Edna Samells, Bonnie Beli and Geo. Freeman. The printed bulletins explained many things that could not be announced. In the list of renovations and improvements we found the following repair fleor beam, painting interior, plywood flooring, carpeting throughout, pews stripped and refinished, new cushions on pews, refurbish- ed choir chairs, 2 decorative ferns, 2 fire extinguishers, clothes rack, communion glass holders, entrance-foot wiper rug - music holders for choir. There had been donations made in memory of Miss date hits. & dances. 985-3015 B & S D.J. It was noted that the '"'in Remembrance" Book was brought up to date. It was admired and appreciation shown for the beautiful script printing. Rev. Linstead conducted the main part of the Service assisted by Rev. Clarke who had given up his free Sunday to be present. For the sermon Rev. Linstead chose "My Church" as his subject based on the Scripture from Isaiah chapter 49 and asked, "Are we justified in feeling proud over the effort that has been -put forward to make our sanctuary beautiful and acceptable"? We have shown a loyalty and appreci- ation of the past and God judges in relation to our ability. During the service there was a moment of appre- ciation and honour shown to Mr. and Mrs. McCue and three members of their family from Curve Lake and Oshawa who were present. They were former residents of the Island and had made many friends. The last hymn was dedicated to Mr. and Mrs. McCue as congra- tulations for 60 years of marriage as they were married in the Island Par- " Sunday sonage in 1921. After the service most of the people moved over to the Island Hall for a social time over refreshments. It was a great time to get acquainted and renew friendships. Next Sunday June 21 will be Communion Sunday. We remember it is also Fathers' Day. So bring those fathers out for a family day. Little ones will be taken care of in the basement. Children, don't forget the School picnic Monday noon, June 22. (Last weeks date was wrong). If you want a ride to town or other information please call your teachers. It's time to think about reserving your tickets for the strawberry and salad supper at the Island Hall Wednes- day uly .8. There are limited number of tickets for 5:30 or 6:30. Call your correspondent as usual. I know you are already gathering items for the July Auction sponsored by the Women's Institute. The ladies wil meet to-night (Wednesday) and take in their items for a fish pond. It ° promises to be an interesting evening. If you are free come along. Mrs. Grace Love's mother has improved considerably and has been up walking. We hope she continues to improve.
