Michael Dearborn The Cartwright Softball Association has started another summer of compe- tition for boys and girls between the ages of seven and fifteen. For 1981 the _ league is split into three age groups. The Junior League is for boys and girls from seven to nine. Boys and girls « from ten to twelve form the Intermediate league and girls and boys from thirteen to fifteen make up the Senior league. The three leagues have, in total, thirteen teams and they all play one game per week and have one practice each week. The teams play until the latter part of August when the playoffs start and the league champions are determined. An awards banquet brings the season to a close." The executive for this year are Michael Dearborn, President. Jim Muzik is Vice-President in charge of the Junior League. Vern Vogel is Vice-President in charge of the Intermediate League. Ed Brown is Vice- President in charge of Senior Soccer Action BRUTONS' MINIS WIN 1-0 by Flip Dalby Wednesday, June 10th, marked the second win for Brutons Drugs Minis. A score by Ben Blanchard in the second half clinched the win for his team over the strong West Shore Marine team. Goalie, Brett Free, defend- ed Brutons' goal admirably as the play centred heavily around his end. COMCO COMETS 3 ORONO 5 by Ray Walton It was, a very exciting game with the play moving very fast up and down the field. The Orono team took the majority of their goals with long hard shots out of reach of the goal tender. Comco played a good game in midfield but didn't have the finishing touch. League. Sharon Stapleton is the Secretary-Treasurer and Vera Franklin is the Repor- ter. This year 190 youngsters registered and this was a slight increase over last year. The Association would like to thank all those who so kindly sponsor a team and also all the coaches, score- keepers . and = umpires. Finally, to the players; - play hard; practice whenever you can and above all else, be a good sport. The four teams in the Junior League are: Lish- mans, Thompson's Village Market, Turners Green Giants, and All Flags Shell. The season opener between Lishman's and Thompson's saw Lishman's come out ahead by a score of seven to four. The score was tied four all going to the bottom of the sixth inning. There was good pitching by Tyler James for Lishman's, also by Jimmy Vernon for Thompson's. Chris McConnell had a home run for Thompson's. In the other game there was lots of hitting as the score would indicate. The final score was Turner's 21 - - All Flags 16 - Seven home runs by Turner's. Danny Maw had 3, Michael Andrews 2, Jan and Todd Heyes had 1 each. In the intermediate league there are five teams. Marj. Tripp Real Estate, Port Perry Funland, Don Frew and Sons, Caesarea Fish and Chips, and David's Hair- styling.
