| 28 lots near Caesarea PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, July 15, 1981 -- 19 Subdivision gets Durham council approval A subdivision proposal for 28 estate residential lots on the south of Regional Road 57, about one mile east of Caesarea, was approved by Regional council at its meeting July 8th. The plan received council approval, despite the fact . Durham's planning depart- ment expressed some strong reservations about it. In a report to council, Mofeed Michael says "the development in such close proximity to two hamlets (Caesarea and Nestleton) will hinder their expansion." His report also says that giving approval to the development "could esta: blish a'demand for further. estate housing in the subject area which would result -in the domination over the rural hamlet character of existing development in the area," The proposal calls for 28 lots to be built on about 86 acres of land between Regional Road 57 and Con- cession 7 in the south. The report. from. the planning department states that 80 per cent of the land is considered class 1 agricul- ture, with the remainder class 4. The report says that part of the southern area of the property is wetland and may not be suitable for septic systems. However, the report points out that detailed soil tests had not been completed when the report was written, The applicant, John Bolahood of Oshawa, now owns several lots fronting on Regional Road 57 and several more fronting on Concession 17. It has been his intent not to seek building permits for these lots if approval was given for the estate residen-- tial development. The estate development has the support of Scugog Township councillors who would prefer to see a sub- division rather than the strips of lots along the two roads. Approval was needed from Durham Region council because the Regional Official Plan must be amended to allow this sub- division to be developed.
