Sa RP Np Naas 2 " A ANAL Bap, RR 2 fhe... ~ Lawrence Van Camp, of Blackstock, Ontario has been named by John Deere Limited and the Canadian Council of 4-H Clubs to one of the most exclusive clubs available to young Canadian farm people, He is the: Ontario repre- sentative to a summer work exchange program financed. by John Deere and adminis- tered by the 4-H Council. As part of his summer adventure, Lawrence will experience life at the home of the parents of Andrew Barker, of 'Bonavista Bay, Newfoundland. Andrew Barker, of course, will be working at Lawrence's home farm at Blackstock, Ontario. Each of the 10 young Canadians within the ex- change program will spend about one month at the home farm of their exchange counterpart. Both 4-H and John Deere stress that the exchange program is work- oriented and is not merely an exotic holiday. All participants are be- tween 16 and 21 years of age and have been involved in 4-H programs for at least two years. They would not normally be free to 'travel because of their work commitments at home. Both John Deere and 4-H intend to create a unique holiday for young farmer opportunity for - young people, who are intent on agriculture as a career, to experience food production in another province. While it is called a '"'Summer Work Exchange', it is an experi- mpent in agricultural educa- tion designed to expand the horizons of high calibre young farm people. Each of the exchange participants will spend a few days: together at their respective homes at the beginning or end of the visits. They will undertake the regular responsibilities and activities of their ex- change counterparts. - One of the highlights of the exchange will be an opportu- nity for some of the ex- change participants to meet a John Deere territory manager and obtain first hand insights into the scope and complexity of farm machine distribution. The 1981 program is the sixth year in which John Deere and 4-H have collab- orated on an exchange program. "We were very pleased with the results of 'the program", said Jack Gilliland, of John Deere, "It was obvious that these young people received significant benefit from it', he added. x ' AL! 3 ss PY. dre RT A LA ETT FA (Yd ( voy § 3 oo 4 : # Ld x i * »~ . » x {Fe TAG A NA LATA oh LETH YS FARA CRE Fg 7% EAE SAFER SRO fe (REE 3 ' 3 The mos Last week's heat wave made the swimming area of Palmer Park a very popular place for the kids now that school is out.
