: Bhan tela: LPG aE SA No Parking Please There has been more than one frustrated motorist over the years who started driving through the alleyways on either side of the Post Office only to find someone has parked in the middle and they are unable to proceed. But on Wednesday last week, the Star photographer caught this truck parked in the middle of the sidewalk in front of the Post Office. Parking in the driveways or on the sidewalk is against the law and offenders should be fined. The short walk from the back of the Post Office, where there is generally plenty of parking, would probably do us all some good. Yelverton area news by Harvey Malcolm Mr. and Mrs. Toronto were Sunday visitors with Mrs. Audrey Brown. Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm and family joined Mr. and Mrs. Trevor Nesbitt and family for a week-end of camping at Preque-Ill Park on Lake Ontario. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Van den Brock and Paul of Ponty- pool, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Malcolm were Saturday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Raez and family of Myrtle for a barbeque dinner and social evening. The Raez are currently entertaining - Walters sister Rosemarie and husband Curt and their son all of Switzerland during their three week vacation in Canada. Yelverton U.C.W. ladies took the church service recently at Yelverton United Church with Mrs. Agnes Howe and Mrs. Linda Pfoh taking charge. Linda pro- + vided the message with her topic on the Disabled in keeping with the Year of the Disabled. Next service at Yelverton will be a joint service to be held on Sunday, August 23rd at 11 a.m. Speedy recovery to Mrs. Doris Rowan who tripped on the sidewalk recently and fell causing a hairline crack of her kneecap. Doris is currently sporting, and will continue to do so for the next couple of weeks, a walking cast. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Baker 'and family of Etobi- coke, Sunday guests of the Art Rowans. A car accident took place on Saturday, July 25 shortly 'after the noon hour at Carol Yelverton. Mrs. Bolton's (teacher at the Yelverton school) vehicle and another vehicle collided with all the occupants being taken by ambulance to Port Perry hospital. Mrs. Bolton was later released but the driver of the other vehicle we understand was transferred to Sunnybrook hospital, Toronto. Mrs. Ann Hurren and Eldon. McFarland and family of Terry Hally entertained a number of friends and relatives on Friday at their home. Mr. and Mrs. Orville Quackenbush and Gilford returned home on Wednes- day, July 22 from their motor trip to the Pacific Ocean and report a very enjoyable trip. Their greatest problem was a eight inch snowfall on July 7 .in the vicinity of the - Columbia Ice fields. Pleased to hear that Mr. Paul Mappin is showing some improvement in Sunnybrook Hospital and trust that he will continue to progress favourably. A rash of accidents in the past week or two has incapa- citated three of our Yelver- ton citizens: Mrs. Art Rowan fell and cracked her kneecap necessitating a walking cast, Mr. Maurice Mantle our general garageman almost amputated his finger, had it stuck back together with '"'crazy glue', Mrs, Eileen Malcolm's ladder fell over while painting and Eileen broke a bone in her ankle and is now hobbling around with the aid of crutches - hopes to have a walking cast this week. On Sunday, due to the fact there has been no services at the local church recently, a gathering of neighbours at '""Malconia® which has been rather irreverently labelled on a "Communion Service" in reality a Wine and Cheese Pool party was held with around twenty folks present. Some local residents attended the annual St. Marys decoration service held on Sunday afternoon. At McDonald's the kids went on a grand tour to see the exciting process of building Big Macs, Quarter Pounders and Cheese- burgers. Some of our kitchen mates helped the McDonald's staff make sundaes and milk shakes. Then everyone sat down to a delicious hamburger and pop. The kids were also given french fry certificates and McDonald's whistles. At Mother's, the kids saw the all "round" process of making pizzas. Later, they were treated to scrumptious pizza, pop and birthday cake. Happy Birthday Laura. We wish you many more. Our chefs also enjoyed cooking up, and eating treats at Playground which included candy apples, pop- corn and cake cones. This week we're trying to get back in shape and run off all those extra pounds we gained last week. This week is 'Sports and Games' week at play- ground. Hope we '"'run"' into you. BLACKSTOCK by Jodie Timgren Getting back to earth after a week of "exploring" places where no man has been before, we get back to the reality of inflation. We used all of our bake sale money to go to the zoo, now we would like to go to Ontario Place. This cost is even higher so we are having two fund-raisings this week. CARS PAINTED! So if you live in those metropolises, Keep Your Returnable Bottles and donate them to the playground. "Toyland, toyland, little girl and boyland" and Friday August 7 is our used toy, books, and puzzle sale. We have asked our children to bring in their old toys and hopefully we will get enough support to sell all of them. Please support the children -. support play- ground! SCUGOG ISLAND by Joanne Kemp Our third week of summer playground was full of games and activities based on the animal theme. Every- one worked hard on crafts this week, creating papier mache animals, and a castle complete with a dragon for our parade. Friday afternoon was the highlight of our week. Thanks to Grant Phair, we all enjoyed a pony ride, which was a first for many of us. Following pace with Port Perry, this is Western Week on our playground. We will experience a taste of cowboy life with a real western lunch and even western dress. Coming events include a trip to Ontario Place, August 10th and a Queen Street parade followed by a show at the Latcham Centre, August 14th. Hope to see you all there. PORT PERRY Did we have ants on our picnic? No way not us, we had popsicles instead. On Thursday the 4-6 year olds enjoyed a day on the town. We hit every major park in the city of Port Perry. Everyone had a belly full of fun. While away the bigger kids decided to take advantage of our absence and had a water- fight. How! Port Perry hit the warpath on Indian Day. We had a war whooping, rain- dancing and Chief of the day awards to be won. We also tried our hands in the kitchen! The attempt was home made clay. Although we tried hard, and had a lot of fun, the result was disasterous. Perhaps too many kids in the kitchen spoil the clay. Our major leaguers went up to bat against Prince Albert playground on Friday. What a way to celebrate the ending of the baseball strike. This Thursday, Port Perry playground, along with Blackstock playground will be "'on the road again." The two playgrounds are heading in the direction of Lindsay to attend a production of the Kawartha Theatre. Raffle tickets are still selling well but we would be happy to see even more sold. Still another fun-filled week awaits us. Hope to see you there!! FRIDAY, AUGUST 7th 9:00P.M.to1:00A.M.
