If you've decided not to exhibit, 'compete, or participate in - the numerous special events, there are still a lot of good reasons for attending. And you can bet on a good time even if you don't like people, animals or vege- tables (which doesn't leave a - lot for you to like, but who are we to judge) That's . because pari-mutual betting returns to the Port Perry Fair on Sunday September 6th, Post time is 1:30 p.m. If you don't leave your stomach on the exciting mid- way rides (starting at 9:00 a.m. Saturday) your stomach will certainly appreciate being taken to the beef buffet Saturday evening at the Scugog Memorial Arena. Serving is from 5-7 p.m. followed by the Fair opening ceremonies at 7:15 - and entertainment starting at 7:45. For the low price of $6.50 for adults and $3.00 for those under 12 (pre- schoolers are free) you'll be able to treat your family to a great dinner and social evening. Tickets are avail- able, in advance only, from Irwin Smith Music Store at 191 Queen Street. If you are thinking about the future pleasures of serious eating (after a day of candy floss and caramel corn) the beef and swine - auction on Saturday at 4:00 could help stock your freezer with good meals for a number of months.) And if you're still a city-slicker at heart the daily petting zoo and the sheep shearing on Saturday at 2:30 may be more your speed. 4-H club events and displays run throughout the weekend and will also provide some insight into the rural way of life still celebrated here in the Port Perry area. As an active spectator you'll find lots of things to do. There is an historical steam show, .three very full buildings of exhibits and demonstrations (all daily) the fair parade to watch on Saturday morning. A fiddle contest on Sunday and Blue Grass entertainment on Monday afternoon. A range of horse and cattle events are planned throughout the weekend concluding on Monday with the Ontario County Holstein Show and the exciting horse drawing competition. 'If you haven't already picked up a detailed program in town this week they will be available at the gates. Make sure to review the program as only a fraction of the many events are outlined above. The CNE says "For three bucks you're laughing." The Port Perry Fair, without the hassle of travelling for 100 miles, will surely keep your budget smiling with admis- sion prices of $2.00 for adults and $.50 for public school children. Parking for $1.00 is available at Simcoe Street and Regional Road 8 on the west side of the fair grounds. Plan now to visit the Port Perry Fair this Labour Day Weekend.
