Cup tournament ends season PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed., September 16, 1981 -- 13 Trophies presented to soccer champions by Brian Mark There were many stars at last Saturday's soccer cup day but none more welcome than the sun which shone all day 'in contrast to the previous two weeks, The final of the Mosquito divisions saw two surprise teams compete for the cup. Port Perry Chrysler and Port Perry Star worked their hearts out to the Vachon and Sipco Oil respectively at the end of regular time. In two agonizing shootouts the Chrysler and Star teams won their way into the final with Port Perry Chrysler coached by Jim Green and Tom Armstrong emerging as winners. In the consolation game Brad Puckrin was chosen as M.V.P. It looked as though the same thing was going to happen with the Atoms when the Port Perry Auto team who had by far the lion's share of the game against the Legion team lost with the last kick of the game. However, the Legion put on a tremendous show in the final against the Kinsmen team which had previously beaten Miller Richmond. The Kinsmen, coached by John Martens, eventually emerged winners by 3-2. In the consolation game Alex Cranmer was chosen M.V.P. Being last in the league did not stop Drapeau Cartage getting convincingly into the final by beating the Green- 12&Under-4to5P.M. Be adie dl ol al. AER. GEA. Mean- while, the strong Canadian Tire team, coached by Janet Deans had overcome a plucky Irvine Construction team and in the final downed a tiring Drapeau Cartage. In the consolation game Jennifer Blanchard was chosen the M.V.P. Earlier about 50 mini soccer players played a series of games against each other and were delighted when everyone received a small trophy. Neil Hun from the local council did great job handing out trophies and crests. The Trailer Place lent us a trailer as a changing room for our referees. Joe Baxter and the Fair Board lent us four sets of bleachers and Brian's Towing helped in their transport to the soccer fields. The Scouts again supplied the refreshments. This brings to an end the official soccer season for all our house leagues. Hopefully all your kids are all a lot fitter, have learned some- thing about team spirit and perhaps even how to win or lose graciously. See you all next year. Juniors advance fo semi- finals Port Perry Mother's Pizza Juniors advanced to the Oshawa city and district semi-finals last week by beating Brooklin Legion two straight in their best of three quarter finals. The first game at Durham on September 9 was a come from behind effort. Down 7 to 3 after seven innings, the juniors scored 2 runs in the eighth and 3 more in the bottom of the ninth to win 8 to 7. The hitting was led by Todd Wilbur, 4 for 5 with 4 RBI's and timely hits by Walker and Franssen with 2 RBI's each. Kevin Walker picked up the win with 9 strike outs, walking only. The second game was played in Brooklin, September 10, with the Port team coming away the victors by a 3 to 0 score.
