by Mrs. Mabel Cawker The Nestleton U.C.W. held their first fall meeting on Tuesday afternoon September 8, 2 p.m. at the spacious country home of Mrs. Barbara Weir with 10 members and 1 guest present - a small attendance due to inclement weather. President Mrs. Mabel Cawker opened the meeting with a hymn "All the way my Savious leads me", followed by a warm welcome and a poem entitled '"'How Little it Costs'. The inspiring devo- tional re- the Disabled, was presented by Mrs. Barbara Weir. Scripture Luke 6: 37-45 was read and hymn "All People on Earth do Dwell" was sung closing with prayer. Minutes were read by sec'y Mrs. Helen Vine and approved. During corre- spondence thank you notes were received. A card was signed by members for a shut-in. The Treasurer's report was given by Mrs. Gwen Malcolm showing a satisfactory balance on hand. During the business period expense money was voted to Miss Gail Malcolm who will be attending the U.C.W. 'conference in Stirling November 3 and 4. After some discussion it was decided to invite the President of Oshawa Presbyterial Mrs. B. E. Killens of Hampton to speak at our November meeting on the 10th at 2 p.m. to be held in Nestleton United Church. A special invitation is to be sent to the surrounding Churches to attend this after- noon of fellowship. Tea will be served in the Sunday School room after the meeting. Used stamps are to be turned in to Mrs. Marg. France. 20 members went to Cullen Gardens in July and report a most enjoyable evening. Programme The program was in charge of Mrs. Helen Vine. Mrs. Edna Goss, Administrator of the Port Perry Nursing Home was the guest speaker and gave those present an indepth look into the work of the Nursing Home and the Villa. Mrs. Goss said - the criteria for admission is the need and community. Their aim- to provide skilled care and enthusiasm for life. She is a relaxed, easy speaker and members found her presentation most interesting and informative. Each member was given a sheet with required informa- tion to take home. The President thanked Mrs. Goss and gave her a gift from U.C.W. in appreciation. To continue the disabled theme Mrs. Doris Rohrer read "Beatitudes for the Aged." The program concluded with a reading by Mrs. Gwen Malcolm "What if God should go on strike"? The meeting closed with the Mizpah Benediction. Delicious refreshements were served by Mrs. Helen Vine and the hostess. Appreciation was extended by Mrs. Grace Jackson. Birthdays Celebrated A family get-to-gether was held at the home of Robt. and Carol Mairs, Steven and Katie, Nestleton, on Sunday, September 6, to celebrate two birthdays. Robt. Mairs and little Julie Slute were honoured with a real party with cake and all the trim- mings. Family News Miss Lisa Chapman, New Liskeard, and friend Mr. Tom Lang, Trout Creek were Wednesday evening dinner guests with her grand- parents George and Ella Bowers of Nestleton. Miss Janice Williams and friend Mr. Murray Giffen of Edmonton, Alberta, were visiting her parents Arnold and Jean Williams, and other relatives in Nestleon for a few days. Sunday dinner guests with Mr. and Mrs. L. Malcolm on Labour Day weekend were Mr. and Mrs. Stan Marshall, Mark and Bryan of Innerkip, Ontario, and Mr. Stanley Malcolm of Port Perry. Following the Gerrow Reunion, held in Nestleton Community Centre on Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. J. Arnot Van Nest of Brantford - were overnight guests of his niece, Mr. and Mrs. L. Malcolm. Sam and Mabel Cawker of Scugog Point Rd, attended the 50th Wedding Anni- versary celebration of Rev. and Mrs. Eldon Linstead held in the Port Perry United Church Hall on Sunday after- noon, with many friends 'present to extend best wishes. Heartiest Congra- tulations! Presbyterian Ladies' Aid Nine members of the Ladies' Aid met in the Church Hall, September 10, with President Mrs. S. McNeely in the chair. After singing a hymn each member offered a personal Prayer. Mrs. R. Davison was in charge of the Devotional. "Christian maturity is God's gift to me- leave behind elementary instruction and move on to Christian experience." Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved and an encouraging financial report was received. The Roll Call was answered with a favourite Scripture. The following items of business were discussed: Members are purchasing gifts for recent weddings. Plans were made for the luncheon to follow the Anni- verse of - versary Services which will be held on Sunday, September 20 at 11 am. A discussion was held on the possible purchase of Commemorative plates. -- A short program was presented by Mrs. R. Davison and Miss Ruth Proutt. Two readings of interest were enjoyed, "A Little Faith" and 'When Father Prays". Refresh- ments were served and Mrs. G. Gillson extended the courtesy to the ladies' for their readings and the dainty * lunch. Church News In the Presbyterian Church on Sunday morning Rev. Fred Swann read Isaiah 53: 1-12 and 1st Corinthians 11: 17-34. Regular Communion was observed. Rev. Swann spoke on the wording of the Communion Service - it is special because it was initi- ated by Jesus Christ himself the words- the understanding and the faith. Mrs. Shirley Scott was organist. A new member Mrs. Amy Ginn joined by transfer. Anniversay services will be held next Sunday, September 20 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dorothy Bulmar as guest speaker. Special music will be featured. A good attendance is expected. Luncheon will be served in the Sunday School room following the service, The Nestleton United Church extended a cordial welcome to Rev. John Smith and Mrs. Smith of Whitby on Sunday morning. Rev. Smith spoke on '"This Household of Faith" taken from Ephesians 2: selected verses. The choir sang an old favourite "I Heard The Voice Of Jesus Say' with organist Mrs. L. Malcolm accompanying. The Nestleton Sunday School will commence this coming Sunday, September 20 11:15 a.m. with Superin- tendent Robt. Mairs and his capable staff ready for the fall activities. We trust the youngsters will be out in full force to take advantage of the dedicated service offered by the Sunday School teachers. A warm welcome awaits you at Sunday School and Church.
