They flourish for awhile and are enjoyed because interested people plan and give their time for organization, phoning and training. But the time comes when they have other obliga- tions or seek a rest and must expect others to take a turn and get some experience. However, you have one more Community Dance Saturday, September 19. More young parents are realizing the importance of Church. Life and bringing their children. Young people are also offering their services. Many young boys are now attending Sunday School and it would be nice to have some young man or young father offering some leadership. On Sunday we were pleased to welcome Mrs. Jennifer Hewson from the former Tetlow home, Mrs. Lynda Carleton from the former home of Parliaments just off Con. 10 and Mrs. Pat Loates who all brought their children. It was a pleasure to meet Mrs. Alice Hensley of England and formerly Ireland. Mrs. Hensley is visiting with her sister Mrs. Madeline Cawker. In Sunday School, the children and enthusiastic teachers seemed to be enjoy- ing their first Sunday of getting acquainted and getting organized for their special Rally Sunday, September 27 when it will be their special Sunday in the church with music, a young speaker, Victor Walker from Port Perry and other partici- pation. We are all looking forward to this day that we share with the children. It's not too late to start your children. There will be choir practice this Thursday Junior at 7 p.m. and Senior at 8 p.m. Again, new children and adults will be welcomed. Please note, there will be no church service on the Island this Sunday as every- one is invited to the Manchester anniversary at 11 a.m. to hear Rev. Brawn and the Port Perry choir. At church on Sunday there were two lovely potted mums left for our pleasure and a little evidence of confetti to remind us of the wedding on Saturday of Beverley (Eden) Raines who has lived on the Island again for some time and enjoys driving a school bus. We are patiently waiting to hear exciting stories from David Redman at the "Head" after his three month trip to Europe, parts of Africe and Asia with some Islands. We know one of his travel high lights was a close view of the Royal Wedding. The Island Women's Insti- tute will meet this Wednes- day. Refer: to your programme for details. We believe there will be some music not listed. All ladies are invited to attend even as guests. There are very few tickets left for the '"head" U.C.W. sponsored turkey supper - September 23. On Sunday everyone PORT PERRY appreciated the long lost sun and pleasant temperatures for the Linstead 50th Wed- ding Anniversary, the Gerrow picnic, entertaining company, attendance at special church services, a ride in the country, or maybe clean up jobs on farm and garden. On Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Clare Thompson at the-- "Head" entertained friends from Richmond Hill. Laurie Ann Wilson enjoyed a family party for her 14th birthday. On Wednesday evening September 2, the 'head" U.C.W. met at the home of Mrs. Bonnie Gerrow with 16 members in attendance along with two mothers of members. Having lowered the qualifying period to 25 years of service, we were now pleased to honour Mrs. Helen Redman with a certificate of Life Membership and certi- fied pin. Helen was presented with a lovely corsage for the occasion and Bonnie Gerrow read an address before the presenta- tion. It was herein noted that the late Mrs. Ethel Redman had been honoured as the first Life Member and the U.C.W. had been organized in her home.
