Mrs. Reta Reader drove to Bowmanville for a Presby- terial meeting which includ- ed lunch. Most groups took in one day's pay, many knitted items, Campbell soup labels and even used stamps. There were reports from many areas and the literature room received much interest. One high light of the afternoon was a panel to lead in a discussion of "Christian Morality To-day". Of the four members, we were proud to have a representa- tive from the Educational in the person of Jerry Le Roy of Fralick's Beach. After each member had 5 minutes to express his or her views, many written questions were received from the audience for an opinion. A House of Commons report on the Disabled and Handicapped was very informative as to what is being done so that these people may be more inde- pendent in helping them- selves to live a normal life. The "Head" U.C.W. meets to-night (Wed.) at the home of Mrs. Irene Carter. The "Grace" U.C.W. meets at the same time at the home of Mrs. Madeline Cawker. Our sympathy is extended to the relatives of Mr. Allen Jackson who passed away last week. He was a former resident of the Island and never forgot his memories and friends there. From time to time he liked to help the church. We are also sorry to report the death of Percy Collins. He was the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Collins and was raised on the farm on roac 7 now owned by John Price. Tho' there were 12 children, they eventually all left the Island to establish - their own homes. The Island choir concert is preparing a Christmas concert possibly for December 6 and certainly would appreciate some help, especially by the men. Saturday was a beautiful night for children to travel around for their Hallowe'en treats. But 7 good sports in the "Head" U.C.W., also decided they could have some fun dressing up and calling on other members. But we understand the numbers grew as calls were made and the whole party ended up at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Don Gerrow. On Sunday, Don and Bonnie Gerrow were enter- taining the latter's brother and wife from Saskatche- wan. They had come east to attend a wedding and spend some time visiting his 4 sisters. Their mother, Mrs. Stephen will return home with them. On Sunday we were pleased to welcome a large number of visitors at the Island Church for the Baptism of 4 children. It was such a lovely day for families to gather to cele- brate such an occasion. After the ceremony the families were welcomed into the Church by Elder Clifford Redman. In our culture most children are considered priceless and give much pleasure to their parents. They were over night guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Snell and family after the wedding. The Friday before Earl and Jean travelled to West Hill to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Scott and helped them celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. Mrs. Ann Davies who is our Curator attended a Tweeds- muir History Workshop recently and brought up to date with our book and asked that we keep up dating our standing. When a family visited another family for a meal, the blessing was asked before the food was served. A visiting child was asked if his family had prayer before a meal. The boy replied, "no, because his mother was a good cook, and they didn't need to ask for protection." The summary was that we need to set a good example for our children. Love reaches out to others. Rev. Linstead will be ministering for the next two Sundays. Next Sunday the Kiwanis Club of Scarborough will conduct a Memorial Service at Manchester.
