PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed., November 4, 1981 -- 5 letters That $1000 tree Dear Sir: How many obstacles does Jim Grieve have to contend with before he gets his pro- ject completed at Port Perry I1.G.A? The nerve of the council to charge him $1,000 for taking down a tree. Did they receive 1,000 for every tree removed along Lilla St. when it was widened? We enjoy the beauty of trees, but when they stand in the way of progress then they must go. How could you back a truck in a driveway with a tree in the way? We are disappointed with the council, I thought they had more foresight. Do they not consider the employment taxes and services, this man is offering to our town? Do they not recall when two large businesses left down town a few years ago, the smaller stores suffered greatly? When people shop at the friendly I.G.A. they continue downtown to browze around. Can't they see the forest for the tree? Wake up council and smell the coffee. Give. the man some consideration who is trying to help our commun- ity; he is not only providing a great and much needed service to the community, but he is also providing an excellent and much needed parking lot for the Churches on Sunday.
