Please have your bundles ready at the driveway by 10 a.m. Next week, Wednesday the 18th the Women's Institute will hold their Christmas meeting at the Hall. The ladies are requested to wear a Christmas corsage and bring a hand made' gift for exchange. The roll call will be a suggestion, to give further aid to the handi- capped in our community. To make suggestions of any value perhaps we should try to review the type of handi- caps among our residents. A few Institute ladies went by 'bus to the conference recently at the Royal York in Toronto. It has been brought to our attention the project being planned by the joint Mother's Auxiliaries for Cubs, Guides, Beavers and Brownies. A leader could not be found for Scouts so rather than give it up, these boys are going to Port for the time being. The active organizations include 34 boys and 36 girls with all their parents. The parents are very enthusi- astic and of course have to raise money to finance different functions. Accord- ingly, they plan an annual, monster, pre Christmas craft and bake sale to be held for the first time at the Scugog Island United Church basement on Nov. 21 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. You will find colourful posters every- where to give you details. Most people know it is the red brick-church on County Rd. 7, which is the main Island Rd. You will be able to "purchase Island crafts for Christmas or Christmas foods. The parents are also selling tickets on an afghan, 'made by Mrs. Betty Free- man and receiving first prize at the Port Perry Fair. This afghan is on display at Mar- Laine Hand Craft Boutique where tickets may also be purchased. The draw will be even made at 3 p.m. on Nov. 21. after the above mentioned bazaar. So let us support these young people and parents. Anyone may donate good used toys for a children's table. You may contact Mrs. Sharen Bobbie 985-3552 or Mrs. Marilyn Fitchett 985-3806. Don't leave it too late. The "Head" U.C.W. met on Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs. Irene Carter with 20 ladies present. The meeting opened with 1 minute of silence broken by the reading of "In Flanders Fields' as only Marion IE v1 XF§/A THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 12th ; A g) hq es (Weare still waiting for our liquor licence.) 5 = Z \y |g : 2 y =" SPECIAL THIS WEEK 3 32 *ROASTBEEF *STEAK 2) 4) OPEN7DAYSAWEEK:11AM.to9P.M. . Collection for island young people who get married are usually started within the U.C.W.'s But as time goes on, with more strangers coming to the Island it becomes a difficult and changed situation. Accordingly, the "Head"' U.C.W. will start a collection for sons or daughters 'of parents who have been long time residents with the "head'"' community. The "Grace" U.C.W. will do the same for those within the Centre and Foot community. If anyone else wishes to donate they will be requested to leave it at a named location. Please seal it in an envelope stating who it is from, the amount for each person and the name of the -young person so that names can be put on the card for each young couple. The names of the young people for whom collections are presently being taken are 4 from the "Head" as Gary Carter, son of Clarence and Marion Carter; Beth Wilson, youngest daughter of the late Jim and Reta Wilson; Dick Alstein, son of Henry and Anne Alstein at Cedar Shores Beach; Rhonda Forder, youngest daughter of Harold and Norma Forder; also 3 from the Centre and Foot of the Island as Anita Bell, daughter of Bill and Bonnie Bell; Valerie McQuinn, older daughter of Jim and Gail McQuinn; Brenda Goose, "younger daughter of Arnold Goose. If you have not been asked for a donation for any of these young people and you would like to be included, you may leave it at the Island store or at the home of Mrs. Nelson Reader, south side of 7A. We are requesting you to have dona- tions in by November 25 ( 2 wks). Again, each U.C.W. will collect directly only for their own area young people. Mrs. Madeline Cawker's brother and his wife are visiting from Saskatoon, after a bus tour thro' the States. It is good that we are presenting them with good weather for getting around. Mrs. Alex (Elva) Martyn who lived at the "Head" of the Island most of her life and is now with her daughter in Scarborough recently celebrated her 88th birthday with a gall bladder opera- tion. Of course she is always interested in the Island and the people. We too are concerned for her and wish her a speedy recovery. Mrs. Joan Aldred has a missionary cousin on leave from Kenya in Africa. She is willing to bring us her experiences and pictures. We think this is being arranged for Sunday, Nov. 22. More details next week. On Sunday the Island Church had a larger attendance in the Sunday School area than the Church itself. When we go-into this area, we are impressed with the amount of work being done by the teachers who are certainly going beyond the . line of duty. Thanks to all those who support them. During the Church service, everyone was made aware that it was Remembrance Day Sunday and many poppies were seen. Rev, Linstead said -he wondered what would happen, if just one country had the courage to proclaim their desire for peace and stick to it from every angle. Grace U.C.W. met last Wednesday evening at the home of Madeline Cawker. President Florence Fralick presided. 'The devotional portion of the meeting was conducted by Yvonne Appleton. Madeline Cawker and 'Margaret Morrow attended Presbytery and gave an interesting account. Margaret read several short items in regards to "The year of the disabled". In the absence of our secretary Christine Prentice, Camille Crosier recorded the minutes. Treasurer Joan Aldred reported the finances and donations will-be made to several organizations. Committees were chosen for the preparation of the Head Mystery Sister Banquet and also our own banquet in December. Check with your group leader re- garding December 2nd. Yvonne Appleton accepted the position of President for the coming term. All other officers will remain the same. Keep Sunday evening, Nov. 22 at Grace United Church, 7:30 p.m. available. Joan Aldred reported that her cousin Mrs. Grace Richardson is a missionary (Turnto page 33) So uth ORUG CENTRE PORT PERRY PLAZA - nm PRESCRIPTIONS PROMPTLY FILLED.
