Ashburn area news by Mrs. Heron A very intersting Horti- culture meeting was held in Brooklin United Church hall on Oct 28th, There was a beautiful display of table centres, pine cone work, wrapped Christmas gifts etc. for judging. Special mention was made of the entries by the junior members. Joan Brack gave a very helpful talk on making Christmas decorations, and table centres for Christmas and while she was talking her hands turned out some very beautiful arrangements The next meeting will be a pot luck supper, the fourth Wednesday evening of November. Recent visitors with the Gardners were, Mr. and Mrs. James Cunnington and family of Guelph, Mr. and Mrs. Ron Stewart and Amanda of Guelph, Mrs. Irma Tripp of Strathroy, Mrs. R. Ervine of Port Perry, Mrs. C. Midgely of Greenbank, Mrs. John Hopkins of Ashburn and Mr. Reese Williams of Scar- borough. The program opened with a hymn sing, Bernice Gardner led the program and gave two -appropriate readings. Debbie Batten, sang a solo. Mathew and Chantal Davidchurch played their recorders and Chantal sang a solo, Chris Batten sang a solo. Muriel Fisher gave a humorous reading about putting up the stove pipes. Catherine Humphrey sang two solos and the mens choir sang four numbers. An" interesting note about the choir was that there was three generations of Ashtons in the choir. The program was much appreciated by the ones who came. One lady present that used to live in Ashburn was Mrs. Wade, she has just celebrated her 90th birthday. A social time was spent with tea and cookies. There was a good turn out at the regular November meeting of the Kirk guild, when Mrs. Valerie Hundert of the Emporium came to explain about antique glass. Several ladies brought glass . for identification. It was a very interesting meeting. The next one will take the form of a cookie exchange. Rose Heron gave the worship service taken from 1st John and based on the word love. The study for the evening was given by Florence Ashton which took the form of a Bible study and was very challenging and helpful. A lovely lunch was served by the hostess and a social time spent. Mr. and Mrs. Gerry Emm enjoyed a short trip to the states and called at Ashburn, Georgia on their way home. Mr. and Mrs. E. Heron spent a couple of days last week with Rev. and Mrs. Ken Heron of Bracebridge and attended the musical production, "Godspell," in the United Church. There will be a Lingerie and Velour party, by Debbip Dixon given at the home of Barbara Porter on Nov. 10th and Nov. 17th at 8 p.m. Phone Barbara Porter if you would like to go. There will be an admission charge, door prizes and lots of fun. This is a fund raising project for the guild. On Nov 13th there will be a pot luck supper in the church hall at 6:30 p.m. A program is being prepared. Everyone come and bring your supper and enjoy the social evening.
