An inspiring worship period was presented by Mrs. Jean Williams and Mrs. Leona Sadler opening with "Silent Night" - Mrs. Gwen Malcolm playing the organ. Theme - "Gifts from Christ" - Christmas symbols' - a seven part devotional closing with "Joy to the World" and Prayer. Minutes and correspond- ence were read by Sec'y Mrs. Helen Vine and dealt with. Many thank you notes were rec'd re - flowers or gifts for members. Cards were signed by the U.C.W. During the business portion members unanimously decided to serve lunch after the Sunday School Concert to be held Sunday evening, Dec. 20, 7:3; P.M. in the Sunday School room. A donation was voted to the Church Treasurer. . The financial statement was given by Treas.Neta Fish showing a good balance on hand. Plans were made to remember the elderly and shut-ins with Christmas cheer and a church calendar. Committee appointed - convener. Mrs. Mabel Cawker, Mrs. Jean Williams, Mrs. Leona Sadler and Mrs. Ruth Davidge. Members are: sending a donation_ to : Operation Scugog to be used for needy families. Meeting closed with the Mizpah Benediction and a Merry Christmas to all. Sympathy . Sympathy is extended to the family of the late Reid Dickey who passed away last week. Reid grew up in the Nestleton Area and was a very likeable chap. He will be missed by many friends. Health Better health is wished for Marguerite Hicks, a former resident of Nestleton who is in Port Perry Hospital. Court Lady Snowbird L1930 - Canadian Foresters The regular meeting was held on Monday, Dec. 7th at the home of Carol Mairs at North Nestleston. Pres. Irene Train opened the meet- ing with 12 members present. Communications included a thank-you from Robert Graham for receiv- ing one of the Forester Awards at Commencement. A thank-you also from Howard Lee for flowers rec'd while in Oshawa Hospital, The Bazaar was a decided 'success again this year. Mrs. Mabel Cawker won the table- cloth, Mrs. Mae Shortridge the Hamper of Groceries and Mrs. Rita Wygerde the Christmas . cake, Congratulations to all. There was some discussion re - moving the Bazaar up a couple of weeks to see if we can miss the bad weather. Carol Mairs is the new gift convener for hospitalized people. The annual fruit baskets are to be made up at Carol Mairs home on Dec. 16 at 9 AM.. There are 32 names on the list as of this writing. In January the ladies will be going on a point system. There will be a chart put up at the hall and at every workable function everyone will sign in. At the end of the year each girl will receive a SRG MN set amount of money per point. There will be no meetings for Jan. and Feb. with the next meeting March 1st.. If any business should arise a special meeting will be call- ed. The meeting ended with a wine and cheese party with Marg and Anne Lee pouring the wine. A gift exchange with last years Mystery sister took place and a draw- ing of next years Mystery sister. Under Brad Bigglesone's title, The Rebellion, the paper's first edition should hit the halls Decmber. 21. Feature articles include Rumour Has It, Dear Crabby and the eagerly awaited Classified Ads. Any- one wishing to contribute to the paper should contact editor Elizabeth Carnegie. Students at P.P.H.S. certainly were in a mood to dance last week. Both the John Lennon tribute and the semi formal Christmas dance featuring Lionheart were great successes. Congratulations are due to social convenors Anand Maharaj and Sean Twomey. The annual Christmas Concert will be held the Wednesday night. The music starts at 7:30 P.M.and Prince by Earline Armstrong Remember the Couples Club of Prince Albert are having a dance on Saturday Dec, 19 at the hall very few tickets are left so get to it if you plan to attend. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Fice and girls from Cambray Ont- ario called on Mr. ana mrs. John Brough and boys last week-end. Jean and Earl Martyn say a heartfelt '"Thank you' to the members of the Sportee (Q) Club (Albert, Fred, Howard, Les, Mac, Roy and Sandy) for their thoughtful and generous Christmas gifts. Glad to report that Sylvia Lindsay is out of hospital but still has a variety of tests to go through. Keep your chin up Sylvia,---- Thursday December 10- was euchre at Prince Albert Hall but with the weather so poor and all only 9 tables were filled. Ladies High went to Ruby Birkett, second Myrtle. Gimblett and low Irene Moore. Mens -high Bruce Bright, second Alvin Spencer and low Wilbert Stone. On December 17 their is another euchre and this is the Christmas one and some special prizes will be given out. So put on your snow boots and come on out. Several chums of Phillip Beacock gathered at his home on Saturday Dec. 12 to, help him celebrate his 6th birthday. I know your day is Dec. 17 Phillip so when Thurs comes around happy Birthday from all Prince Albert. 'Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Strong were in Toronto last week to see the christening of their great grandson Paul Robert Gordon Kingston son of Mr. and Mrs. John Kingston. The flu bug bit Mabel after she returned and she hasn't been a bit well. It was White Gift Sunday at church on Dec. 13. Jim Martin was at the door to welcome all, The choir music was beautiful with both Junior and Senior choir offering Christmas songs. Rev. Brawn presided over the installation of Bill Wannamaker to the position of Sunday School Superint- - endent. I am sure you will do a. good job Bill. Harvey Dearborn and Jim Martin tickets are $2.00 Adults, $1. 00 students and children. It promises to be an enjoyable evening full of great music. The yearbook cover design contest is on again. The rules are available in the office so all those artists out there should get those pens work- ing to create a cover for the '81-'82 edition. First prizeis a free yearbook. Student Services is still waiting to hear from those first . year University and College students who are coming back to talk to our grade 13s. Mr. McNair wants to know how many are coming so he can order the right amount of doughnuts. Finally, Port's actors and singers are hard at work on the Christmas assembly. The assembly will be held on the last day of school and should be an entertaining hour of laughs. See you again after Christmas. Albert gathered the offering. Please call Ilean Pugh at 985-2146 with your holiday news next week. OBITUARY - GEORGE HAYES George James Hayes of Columbus died- at his home November 21, 1981 at the age of 68. He was the son of the late Clarence and Alma Hayes and lived all his life on the farm where he was born and which he loved. He was a member of Columbus United Church. A past member and director of the Oshawa Fair Board. Was Sheep Valuator and Pound Keeper for the former Town- ship of East Whitby and later Oshawa for many years. He was Animal Control Officer for several years. Mr. Hayes is survived by his wife, the former Verna Marie Hagle. One son, Gary of Oshawa. Two daughters, Mrs. Victor Elliott of Milton, (Donna), and Mrs. John Quackenbush of Oshawa (Susan). Two sisters, Mrs." W.R.F. Hayter of Oakville, Frances and Mrs, Clifford Johns of Coldwater, Dorothy. One . brdther William of Cambray. Three grandchildren, Cheryl and Lisa Hayes and Shawn Elliott. He was predeceased by one brother Ray who died in October 1980. Mr. Hayes was at the McIntosh Anderson Funeral Home, Oshawa. Funeral Service was "held in the chapel on Tuesday, Novem- ber 24, at 3 p.m. followed by interment in Groveside Cemetery. : Rev. John Hill of Columbus officiated. The pallbearers were, Walter Beath, Howard Grass, John Howden, Bruce Ormiston, Glenn Smith and Clare Parson. OTITIS So = Str
