A goal by captain Todd Wilbur with less than four minutes to play gave Port Perry MoJacks a 4 - 3 win over the Uxbridge Bruins, and snapped a three game losing streak on home ice. In front of the largest crowd of the season at the Scugog Arena Sunday + evening, MoJacks got some [§ Ritaiaaseaen timely net-minding by goalie Ray Gibson who faced 33 shots and held a hot hand to keep the team in the game. MoJacks were happy to get the two points over the Bruins, a team like the Mo- Jacks which has been * » ¥ struggling lately. The game may be costly, however, as winger Tim from the ice on a stretcher with damaged ligaments in Thompson had to be taken 4 ¥ ' . . ¥ his knee, and line-mate 4 Brian Mikkelsen had to leave the game after the first * +s rey EE hd yay yes period with a bad back. 'pets It is not known when these players will be able to return to active duty on the roster. Mikkelsen got the MoJacks off to a fast start at the 29 second mark when he took 'a pass from Charlie Brown and whipped a quick shot behind Uxbridge goalie Rodriguez. . The teams then traded goals until the 16:14 mark of the third period when Wilbur grabbed a puck beside the Uxbridge goal, worked his way in front and then slid a back hand shot along the ice into the corner of the net. Newcomer Ray Bright drew an assist on the goal which proved to be the game winner. g At 1:31 of the third period, MoJacks had taken a 3 - 2 lead when Mike Mitchell and P5252505252505252525252525252525252525 VILLAGE BLUES GAWATER ST., PORT PERRY 985-8864 . -Jeans- Cords - - Designer Jeans - Sweaters & Blouses . December 23, 1981 -- 29 MolJacks snap losing streak with 4-3 win iE iy, | : "Su % 4; MoJack forward Jamie Bird works into scoring position in this play during the second period Sunday evening at.the Scugog Arena as Port Perry snapped a slump with a 4-3 win over the Uxbridge Bruins. Bird had probably his strongest game this season for the MoJacks scoring one goal and setting up another. "Merry Christmas & Happy New Year" FRANK'S RESTAURANT § Jamie Bird combined to beat Rodriguez who was out of position on the play. Bruins got that one back three minutes later on the power play as Peter Arts was allowed to skate un- touched in front of Ray Gibson. Winger Jamie Bird had probably his strongest game as a MoJack. Along with the assist on Mitchell's goal, Bird scored one himself at 11:40 of the second when he stole the puck behind the Uxbridge net, drifted in front and then held on long enough to force the goalie down before flipping it into the goal. Uxbridge took advantage of a couple of MoJack _ penalties early in the second period to score two goals and take the lead for the only time in the contest. Late in the first period Scott Heard was assessed a five minute charging penalty, a call which was questionable at best. And at 2:27, Mike Mitchell was off elbowing when Peter Arts scored with MoJacks two men short. Heard had five seconds left in his major penalty when Bruins Van Kessel deflected a shot behind Gibson to give Uxbridge a 2 - 1 lead. There were numerous off- setting penalties called throughout the game with MoJacks taking 14 minors and Uxbridge 13. Early in the first period defenseman Ian Turner and Rick Bayard tangled and both were thrown from the game. With MoJacks up by a goal, Bruins pulled their goalie with 56 seconds left in the game, but the Port Perry defense held firm and kept the visitors: from getting a clear shoton goal. During the match, Ray Gibson made several key stops, including a billiant save early in the first on a clear cut Uxbridge break- away. MoJacks travelled to Stouffville on Tuesday night (Dec. 22) for a game with the Clippers who have been hot of late. ETE ETT TTT ~ So far this season, MoJacks have nine losses, eight victories and two ties. Next home game for the MoJacks is Monday, Dec- ember 28 when the Little BritainMerchants pay a visit to the Scugog Area for a 7:30 face-off.
