After eight and one half years of service, Rev. Robert Brawn B.S.B.D. his wife Shirley and . family concluded their very productive ministry in our community. Mr. Gordon Reesor of Port Perry acted as master of ceremonies at a farewell gathering held at 7:00 P.M. at the Church. Mr. Reesor described the night as a time to thank the Brawn's for giving the community eight and one half years of their lives. The evening was attended by many and consisted of an old fashioned hymn sing led Some changes in our community we look upon with pleasure, others with regret and so it is with the latter feeling our church congregation felt when being officially informed our minister Rev. Linstead con- cluded the time in the sanctuary with a message and prayer for the Brawns. A luncheon was served after and at this time Mrs. Jane Litt presented Shirley. Brawn with a lifetime membership to the United Church Women. Mr, Gerald Nelson pre- sented the family with a parting gift of two swivel rocking chairs. Bob and Shirley are loved and respected by many in this community and will be missed by one and all. The Brawn's have moved to the Linden Park United Church in Hamilton The old tradition in the life of the church immediately flashed to many minds yes minister, wife and family come to us and likewise in due time leave us. As a result on Sunday, Nov. 29 a going- away party was arranged in church parlors for The Brawns. At 5 o'clock over 150 enjoyed hot-cold sumptuous pot-luck food including an abundance of those calories. At 7 bells all made their way to the sanctuary where Jim Martin capably filled in the duties of Mc. for a brief program made possible thru' the various departments of the church contributing numbers eg. singing groups which truly was music to our ears, a monolog - Beulah n' -Herman. A skit entitled There's People and Theres People". Last but not least we were especially favoured when 4 girls as quartette from Scugog Is (members of Sweet Adelines) rendered a number of vocal treats. At this point our guests of honour Rev. arid Mrs. Brawn and younger son Greg were invited to come to the pulpit area when Terry Hodgins related at random a some- what oral address blended with his usual wit and wisdom. During the afternoon many of the younger members enjoyed skating and playing on the ice at the arena. Dr. Wayne McShane entertained with a showing of excellent local slides. Some of the out of town guests visited rela- tives in the area for a few days. Tuesday evening dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Brawn family honoured by Prince Albert congregation known among us as "Bob n' Shirley" were presented with a monetary gift as a memento for their spiritual services and love in our area.In turn the recipients related warm sentiments for the evening in general including the useful gift also rehearsing a few pleasant anecdotes of the 8 yrs associated among us. Even their young son Gregory voiced a boyish comment. The singing of "Blest Be The Tide That Binds" brought a closing note to a memorable evening. Then on Sunday, Dec. 27, Rev. R. Brawn delivered his farewell message theme - "Movements of Grace' over which it was noticable a percentage of the congregation had a sombre feeling in "their" heart. Any- way as a last note all assured the Brawn family would stand tall in eyes of their new congregation. at Hamilton plus a healthy 1982. Hoskin were Mr, and Mrs. Jacques Noel, Robert and Andrea. Mrs. Mary Sheen, Toronto, spent the holidays with her daughter Miss Susan Sheen. They spent Christmas at their cottage and with rela- tives in Haliburton. Many people brought the New Year in with parties. The 0.N.O. Party at the Recreation Centre was the usual fine success. House parties were also held by Mr. and Mrs. Brian Norton, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Graham, Mr. and Mrs. John Lynde and Tim Cochrane among the many held in the area. Poor road conditions added to the evening for many. Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Hoskin enjoyed going out to dinner and a pleasant evening with Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Davis, Solina. A number of young married couples enjoyed the evening dinner at Rock Haven, Peterborough followed by a party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Don Wright. New Year's Day dinner -guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Hoskin were Mr. and Mrs. Murray Hoskin, Shelley McIntyre and Tony Oxley of Port Perry. Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Poff of Peterborough called on her grandparents Lorne and Maxine. Mr. and Mrs. Harold McLaughlin, Mrs. Wilbur Toms enjoyed New Year's dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Slemon and family, Hayden. New Year's Day guests of _ Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Kelly were Mr. and Mrs. William Kelly, Bobcaygeon, Mrs. . Cora Hott, Fenelon Falls, Mrs. Ted Gilmour, Lindsay, Mrs. Reg Boundey, Port Perry, Howard Bailey, Mr and Mrs. Walter Wright.
