¢ SEIN RRS EE A Telethon for Cerebral Palsy to be aired this weekend The 1982 Weekend With the Stars Telethon for Cerebral . Palsy is to be aired on CBLT, Channel 5, Toronto, from 7:00 P.M. Saturday, January 16, 1982 to 5:00 P.M. Sunday, January 17, 1982. In -the Durham Region monies pledged through our phone outlets in Oshawa, Pickering, Uxbridge, Cann- ington and Port Perry, will be used for development of projects in Durham Region. As in the past few years the organizers in the Port Perry area are Betty and Stan Mills whose son resides in a Pilot Project administ- ered by the Participation House Apartment Project in Oshawa. The 'Participaticn House § Project (Durham Region) owns land on Concession Street East in Bowmanville and the Ministry of Comm- unity and Social Services is encouraging it to continue with fund-raising activities. There is currently a Pilot Project established in the Beacon Arms Apartment Building on Simcoe Street North of Taunton Road in Oshawa. During the Telethon of January 17-18, 1981, a total of $31,000.00 was pledged in Durham Region, "of which $15,000. was used to adapt and equip three apartments for use by the physically disabled. There are six severely physically disabled persons in three apartments. There are also three other ambulatory persons with physical disabilities in a house on Gibbons Street in Oshawa. Most of the residents are involved in a Life Skills program, one attends Durham College, and one is employed - - - all of the residents have either been living at home with parents who can no longer care for them or many were institutionalized for most of their lives. The moment has come that students begin to shudder at the mention of EXAMS, yes that's right we have only ten days til the exams begin so get studying. Winter. Carnival pre- parations are underway for the beard growing contest, best of luck to all competitors. The students of Port Perry High, have had a very special person and friend leave heir midst. Mrs. Carnegie passed on in her sleep, Monday, January 11. She was head secretary and a close friend to.many of the Ziebart 985-8631 students. The students extend their condolences to family. This device provides an external way of monitoring the levels of Oxygen Supply in a baby's blood stream and will be specifically of use where newborns have respiratory problems. In Oshawa General Hospital there are approximately 2,500 deliver- ies per year. Of this number 10 per cent will have some neonatal illness.
