Port suffered the first defeat last Tuesday in Woodbridge as we were not really ready to go and the final was 6-4 Woodbridge. Jamie Menzies got the first Port goal midway through the second period with Blair Phillips and Mike Gibson earning the assists. This made the score 2-1 for the home team and every time we scored they did too. Blair Phillips counted the next Realtor goal with Chris Skura earning the third. Stephen Connors earned an assist on the Skura goal. Our final marker was a goal from Mike Gibson with Blair Phillips notching the assist. This made the series 2-1 in favour of Port. The fourth game of this series was played Friday the 19th in Port and the Realtors made no mistakes in winning the game 1-0. This was one of the most exciting games all season with both teams having many chances. Rob Brown scored the games only goal late in the first period. Blair Bailey and Brad Traves did some leg work on the play. The score didn't change mostly because of the excellent goal tending for both teams. Stacey Ballingall notched the very well earned shut out. The stage was then set for the game no. 5 with Port Perry only one win away but Woodbridge were not to be taken Sunday night as we lost 2-1 with both teams playing very well. Port took an early lead just two minutes into the game when Brad Traves and Tim Allsopp set up Mike Gibson in front of the net and Gibson put it away quickly. Wood- bridge tied it up just over a minute later, when we were short-handed. The game winner was scored midway through the second period and neither team counted after that. It was a very excellent game with both teams giving 100 per cent but the Port team just couldn't seem to buy a goal. We play the sixth game Tuesday night at 9:00 in Woodbridge and the seventh (if necessary) in Port Perry Sat. 27th at 7:30. So come out and support a team that never gives up. Mar. 21st, The Malmont Farm Atoms travelled to Amherstview for their first game in the best of five series for the All Ontario Eastern Div. Championship. Port encountered Ernestown in the championship game of The Peterboro Tournament, they knew they could expect stiff competition, as they are an excellent skating and checking team, also very physical. The Green Machines came out flying in the first and second periods and racked up four goals, Clair Cornish lit up the scoreboard first on passing plays from Matt Durward and Daryl Leather- dale. They carried this slim lead into the second period until Matt Durward found the opening on passes from Daryl Leatherdale and Paul Wylie: After much scrambling in front of the net, Mike Sorley assisted by Sean Bradbury and Todd Heyes made it 3-0. With only 1:42 remaining in the period, Sean Bradbury scored unassisted. Mar. 17th after three regulation periods and one ten minute overtime period the score was still in a 1-1 deadlock between the Malmont Farm Atoms and Lakefield. The Green Machines outskated, out- played and outshot their opponents, but were unable to put the puck in the net, as they hit goalposts, crossbars and there was always a big goalie glove in the way. The first period remained score- less with the play mainly in Lakefields end, it was the opening minutes of the second that Lakefield took the lead on a deflection off our own player. With only 2:40 left in the third period, Derek Fitzgerald picking up the puck from a faceoff, let go a low shot and Matt Durward tipped it under the Lakefield goalie. Chris and Ryan were not exactly over- worked, but played their usual strong game when called upon. Due to the importance of playoffs, the team lacked their usual enthusism, Whitby took a fast goal lead, before Clair Cornish assisted by Daryl Leatherdale evened the score, again Whitby took the lead before the period ended. Each team added one marker in the second, scoring for Port was Todd Heyes from Sean Brad- bury and Mike Sorley. The third period was scoreless, but a great effort by Port in the dying minutes to even the score. The second game was played against Sharon with Port coming out with a 6-0 victory. The Green Machines led 2-0 after one on goals by Mike Sorley and Todd Heyes. Jimmy Vernon picked up two assists and Danny Maw a single. The second period was scoreless and it was not until the third, that Port added four more unanswer- ed goals, Jeff Mills, Daryl Leatherdale, Matt Durward and Todd Heyes the scorers with Eric Grosvenor, Matt Durward, Paul Wylie and Mike Sorley picking up single assists. *10A.M. to 6 P.M. *Register early & save $40.00 per family.
