~et wf 20 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed. March 24, 1982 News, comments from the Seagrave area by Marilyn Beacock Is this really. the first week-end of spring? By the looks of the weather on Sun- day I would say that old Santa Claus should be hitch- ing up the reindeer instead of the Easter Bunny looking around for his basket of eggs. Cheer up folks - the lawn will need cutting before you know it! I sincerely regret that Norma Adams has made the decision to discontinue. her, duties as correspondent for this column. Norma has written the news for the last couple of years but now that she is back in the work force she finds that she no longer has the time necessary to devote to this. We're going to miss your column Norma! I hope all the folks in Mariposa Estates will con- tinue to let either Barb Mac- Donald or myself know of any newsworthy happenings. We'll leave it up to you Norma to jog their memories periodically. Congratulations to Miss Lorna Durward who was the proud winner of first prize on her cake at the annual Guide and Brownie District Bake- Off at Sunderland recently. Well Lorna I guess watching your Mom make all those yummy Carrot cakes of hers has definitely made you a winner. Keep up the good work Honey! Mrs. Alma Metheral of Seagrave and Mrs. Shirley Ross of Whitby attended St. Mark's Quilt Show in Whitby on Thursday evening. There were 60 quilts from every decade of the century on display at this very impress- ive show. The Good Neighbours Group thoroughly enjoyed having as their guests Mrs. Jeannette Ross, her daughter Tamarah and Donna Prentice at their meeting Monday night of last week. These gals are all associated with the Rape Crisis Centre in Port Perry and their presentation was factual and very thought- provoking. If your U.C.W. or Institute group are looking for a speaker, I would highly recommend these gals - you certainly won't be dis- appointed. Our little Brownies invited their mommies or grandma's to their annual Mother and Daughter Banquet on Saturday nite. After enjoying a delicious Roast Turkey dinner *Fully Licenced. *Low Prices. A word of warning - don't mess around with young Patrick Bertrand! Pat recently captured a bronze medal in the Ontario wrestling finals in Port Perry. Congratulations Pat - we're all very proud of you. Just one question Pat - does eating Cheerios really help to build those muscles? those muscles? Is anybody hungry for a Hot Roast Beef dinner and some scrumptiously delicious home-made pies? Well if you are I've got just the place for you and the price is right too. The Bd. of Stewards of the Seagrave United Church invite you to join them on Wed. April 7. This Friday evening the Greenbank Young Peoples will be joining with the young folks from the Uxbridge Baptist Church for a fun- filled evening of pizza, films, and just generally a good time. Rev. Rodgers made a correction concerning the time of this get-to-gether at church on Sunday but my short-hand is getting kind of rusty I guess because I didn't get it marked down so if you're interested in going Friday night I'm sure if you called him he would give you the correct time. Rev. Rodgers and daughter Laurie acc- ompanied by our organist Joan Lee provided the congregation with a beauti- ful duet on Sunday morning. When are we having an encore - I missed it because I was in Sunday School? Mr. and Mrs. Don Beacock and Craig were delighted to have as luncheon guests last Wednesday, Mr. and Mrs. Carle Parliament and sons Hirk and Randy of Canning- ton. Confirmation and reception of new members will take place at our church on Easter Sunday, April 11. I can't stress the MacDonald or myself. We would be most appreciative of your offer so please give it some consideration.
