The $5 per hour increase in the preferred rate was a recommendation from the Scugog Arena Board, and this was accepted Monday afternoon by Township council. The premium rate for ice rental at the arena is also going up next season, from the present $47 to $50 per hour. We don't want to be in a position of pricing the ice out of the hands of the youngsters." . He said Board members have agreed to the $5 per hour increase in the prefer- red rates. Mr. Glass said he discussed the increase with officials of the minor sports organizations involved, and apparently are prepared to live with them. March 31, 1982 -- 15 Ice rental rates to go up Taylor and regional council lor Lawrence Malcolm agreed the $5 hike "seems to be fair." The hike to $32 for the preferred rate is actually more than a recommen- dation made last week by council who suggested it be raised a minimum of 10 per cent to $29.70 per hour. Council also recommended last week that the Township grant to the arena be in- creased by ten per cent over last year when the grant was about $17,800. However, even with the increase in the rental rates and the Township grant, the arena operation this coming season will still run at a deficit of close to $20,000. A proposed budget submit- ted to council shows total revenues (at present ice rental rates) of $143,000 and expenditures of $174,000. for a new furnace. Mr. Glass said, however, that the Board has asked the manu- facturer of the present furnace to pay for the cost of a new one. He said in the past three and a half years, about $10,000 has been spent on repairs to the present fur- nace, and it still is not functioning properly. He said although the request has been made for the manufacturer to replace the furnace, the Board has not received a reply one way or another. Meanwhile, council Monday accepted proposed ice rental rate increases for the Cartwright Arena in Blackstock. The rates will go up seven per cent bringing the prefer- red rate to $26 and the premium rate to $35 per hour. 61> 5 Year Annual Interest 16 Semi-Annually Rates Subject to Change without Notice. .
