Council also recommended last week that the Township grant to the arena be in- creased by ten per cent over last year when the grant was about $17,800. However, even with the increase in the rental rates and the Township grant, the arena operation this coming season will still run at a deficit of close to $20,000. A proposed budget submit- ted to council shows total revenues (at present ice rental rates) of $143,000 and expenditures of $174,000. for a new furnace. Mr. Glass said, however, that the Board has asked the manu- facturer of the present furnace to pay for the cost of a new one. He said in the past three and a half years, about $10,000 has been spent on repairs to the present fur- nace, and it still is not functioning properly. He said although the request has been made for the manufacturer to replace the furnace, the Board has not received a reply one way or another. Meanwhile, council Monday accepted proposed ice rental rate increases for the Cartwright Arena in Blackstock.
