March 31, 1982 Nestleton, Caesarea news by Mabel Cawker Pine Ridge Garden Club Activities The first meeting of the 1982 season, Pine Ridge Garden Club, got off to a great start with a large crowd sitting down to a bountiful Pot Luck Supper held 'in the Nestleton Community Centre. David and Kathleen Petrie of Analda Gardens were in charge of the programme. Kathleen conducted a questionnaire on identifying common plants and a contest in identifying tree branches which was won by Ida Hortig of Yelverton. David explain- ed the setting up of a home Greenhouse and answered questions regarding same. Three membership prizes were presented and the winners were: R. Hoogeveen, Mary Frv and Lois Locke. A cordial invitation is extended to all who would like to join us April 6, at 8 p.m. Nestleton Community Centre, when the club will have a Workshop making Easter arrangements for "Meals on Wheels" - also materials may be purchased to make yourself an arrange- « ment. A bus will be leaving Nestleton, April 23rd at 9 p.m. to attend the Spring Flower Show in Toronto. Happy News Mr. and Mrs. L. Malcolm of Nestleton, spent Tuesday to Friday last week visiting with Jim and Bonnie Bilton and family of Lanark. Last Thursday and Friday we were hit with record breaking low temp- eratures with high winds, and driving snow, which fill- ed in roads, causing much hardship and inconvenience. I wonder how the robins survived, after just arriving from the sunny south. Please reserve April 9th, for our joint Easter Service in Greenbank Church at 7:30 p.m. On Easter Sunday, April 11th, confunction and reception of new members, followed by Communion will be held. At this service the dedication of the new hymn books will also take place. Choir practice is scheduled on Tuesday, Mar. 30 in the Church. Recent visitors with Mrs. Aleta Leask were her sisters Mrs. Tomilson of Stouffville, and her sister and niece from North Bay. Sorry to report Mrs. Myrtle Thomas is a patient in Port Perry Hospital. Miss Helen Lee of Kitchener visited her mother Mrs. Vera Lee last week-end and they were entertained at the home of Mr. and Mrs. " Glenn Smith. Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Blakley spent several days in Ottawa visiting their son, Mr. and Mrs. Trevor Blakely. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Dempsey and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Stan Foster, attended a family get together at- the home of Peggy Ridgeway on Sat. evening. Congratulations to Mr. Willie Stone, on receiving the 'Master Breeder's Holstein Award" recently in Toronto. Miss Kathy Cookman of St. Catherines visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Cookman last week. The 4-H girls entertained their mothers and members of the Women's Institute on Wed. evening. After several games and contests, slides - were shown regarding the art of making bread. Later a delicious lunch-was served consisting of bread products made by the girls. Thank you girls, and good luck to you and your leaders with your project. This will be from 9 to 12, in the Hall, Everyone welcome. Mrs. Verna Baird was pleased to have her niece, Mrs. .Judy McGregor of Kemptville visit her last week. She also received letters from her grand- children, Cheryl Snodden from Vancouver, Robert Baird who is holidaying in Tasmania, and Bonnie Snodden who is in Thunder Bay. It was a real delight to see the skating carnival in Sunderland on Sunday, when Denise Gibson who is a Jr. pro and Marion Humphfies who is a Sr. pro, perform the dance step and clown act. Denise is also a teacher for the younger children, who did a beautiful performance in the party time scene. Local children taking part were Billy and Robert Raines, Barbara-Ann, and Gregory Phayre, and Jo Ann and Susan Edmundson, and Laura Phoenix. Michael Gibson, who is on the Stone Hockey team, has made the finals, winning the game against the Forest team and will be playing in Forest on the week-end. Good luck boys.
