Cornish grade 8 students took part in the Canadian math competition sponsored by Waterloo University and scored a total of 261% marks. Cornish placed 13 out of 35 other schools and the top three scorers of the national competition were Michael Brock with 100.50 marks, Wayne Buller with 88.75 marks and Jeff Ireland who scored 72.00 marks. Michael also scored 8th in all of Canada. Mr. Reg Philip, teacher in the enrichment math program and contest manager told the Star he was very proud of the results and added that the competition was purposely integrated as part of his enrichment program for mathematical stimulation. PH HAFAN \ DRA Nestleton, Caesarea by Mabel Cawker A Pleasant Surprise On Sunday afternoon, April 4, relatives and friends gathered at the Scugog Is. Municipal Hall to help celebrate the 40th Wedding Anniversary of John and Marion Hall of Wiliams Point - which was a complete surprise to them. The happy event was "hosted" by their family - Robert and Carolyn Hall of Scugog Island and Bill and Loraine Hall of Ajax. A delicious buffet luncheon was served later in the day. A memorable occasion and "very warmest wishes" for many more from area friends and trust the weather will be more favourable for the next celebration. Baseball News The committe have had two registration nights and will have two more on April 14th at Blackstock Rec- reation Centre - 6:30 - 8 p.m. and the following night, April 15th in Nestleton Community Centre - 6:30 - 8 p.m, A baseball dance is planned for April 24th in Nestleton Community Centre. For tickets, please call Mike Dearborn - 986- 4664. The night after the Bryans celebrate 25th anniversary A quiet spring wedding took place March 15, 1957 when Rev. Lloyd Somerville married Nancy Brown and Robert Bryans at the home of the bride's parents Babe and Wilf Brown, Courtice. Now 25 years later foll- owing a family dinner at Crandell's about 150 friends and relatives gathered at the Blackstock Rec Centre on March 6, 1982 to help them celebrate. Bob's parents Ina and Jim Bryans, Faith Place Oshawa also Babe and Wilf Brown and their attendants of 25 years ago, Virginia Brown Fairey of Bowmanville and George Bryans, Cameron were able to attend. A hilarious mock wedding took place providing some good laughs. On March 13, a dinner at the Flying Dutchman was enjoyed with their family, Patti, Steve, Gord and Debbie Bryans, Rick Alpe, Lorinda Jackson, as guests of Babe and Wilf Brown. They later went to Nancy's sister's home Virginia Fairey where a surprise shower was held 'and many useful gifts received. The highlights of this anniversary as reported pre- viously was the arrival - March 23 of Nancy's pen pal of 29 years - Deanna Halligan and her husband Ken of West Des Moines, Iowa. Cedar Creek by G. Kilpatrick Mr. and Mrs. John den Boer visited their son, Martin, in New York for several days, a week ago. George Kilpatrick visited Allen Keetch of Whitby last Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Rick Larocque and sons and Mr. and Mrs. Norris Doherty visited their relatives, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Farrow and Mr. and Mrs. Reg Gore at South River over the Easter weekend. The Bruce Cummings family and granddaughter, Connie, of Cannington were Sunday supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Cummings and family of Caesarea. D. Members of the family planned the event wife Jean, sons Scott, Neil, Dale and sister-in-law Mrs. Dorothy Chapman of New Liskeard. Those present for the 'gala' occasion were the Williams and Bowers families. Jean, Dorothy and Helen were the expert cooks. Guests present for the retire- ment dinner were as follows: Mrs. Avelyn Williams, Nestleton, Ronald and Joyce Williams and family - Pat and Bob and Diane and Mike of Oshawa. On Saturday, April 3, a birthday party was planned by Neta and the family to honour Grahame on his birthday. Mr.. and Mrs. Bruce Fish, Lisa and Laura of Oshawa were unable to. attend due to illness. A lovely birthday cake beautifully decorated was made by his daughter. Mr. and Mrs. George Bowers were dinner guests of Bert and Marilyn Bowers, John and Brian of Oshawa, on Tuesday at Haugens Barbecue at Manchester. Daughter Dorothy Chap- man of New Liskeard is spending a week or so with her parents Mr. and Mrs. George Bowers, Nestleton, and sisters and brothers in the surrounding area. Easter guests with Sam and Mabel Cawker at the farm- were Mr. and Mrs. Alan Cawker and lovely little Andrea, Mr. Grant Cawker, 'Chris 'and Curt all of Oshawa, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Cawker of Sudbury, and son Bryan Cawker .of Sault Ste Marie, were Friday over night guests. Saturday morning breakfast was enjoyed by all at Haugens Barbecue before they left for Waterloo University to visit daughter Cheryl - an over- night stay before returning home. Mr. Ken Bragg, Bowmanville, was a Sat. evening guest. - Sympathy Deepest sympathy is extended to the family of the late Mrs. Reg. Renouf, Caesarea - husband Reg, the family, and many friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Church News A good attendance at the Presbyterian Church in Nestleton on Easter Sunday. A large number of wor- shippers at the United Church in Nestleton for the Easter celebration. Rev. John Smith' used as his theme "The Victorious Christ." The. choir sang, "Because He Lives." Easter lilies graced the sanctuary. Trust one and all had a peaceful, meaningful Easter that joyous time of year.
