Spring officially arrives, as ice leaves Lake Scugog Monday, April 19 will go down in history as the day the ice left Lake Scugog in 1982. By noon on this bright sunny day, Mother Nature released her icy grip and the only ice that could be seen was far to the north. Later in the day all but a few ice flows had disappeared from view when standing on the government dock and look- ing in any direction. The earliest dates record- ed at the Star office for the ice leaving were way back in March 1903 and 1921 when ° the ice left on March 21, the first day of Spring. The latest date recorded was in 1965 when the ice persisted until April 29. The following list, going back to 1872, will give most of the dates the ice left Lake Scugog up until the present. Block Parents Growing The Scugog Block Parents Association held its annual meeting April 6 with Claudia Little and Cheryl Linton [right] acting as co-chairpersons for the coming year. At left is secretary-treasurer Joanne Howsam with three year old Kelly who is holding the distinctive Block Parent Sign. There are now about 200 Block Parent homes in Scugog Township. The area reps are Jean Holtby in Prince Albert, Glenda Morden in Port Perry and Gail Malcolm in Blackstock. Fund raising efforts will be carried out for money for the phone check program at the R.H.
