The originator of this 600- acre amusement park is Gary Convery and the Star spoke to his partner, George Hennings who said that although Pleasure Valley is only in its second year of operation, he expects about 40,000 people to take advantage of the park this summer. Not bad for a park that is only just now receiving widespread attention. Pleasure Valley has many 'pleasurable' attractions. One very unique one is a 400-foot waterslide that winds its way down a hill. For those who enjoy roller- skating, imagine skating along one and one half miles of wooded trails complete with piped-in music. You can bring your own skates or rent them at the park. Pleasure Valley also offers horseback riding and hay- rides. In addition there is a playground for the kids complete with a trampoline, a petting zoo and pony and donkey rides. There is even a pond for those who wish to swim and sun. Picnickers are welcome in the park and there is ample room as Pleasure Valley * provides barbecue pits and tables. } Cold drinks, hotdogs and hamburgers can be bought at an indoor restaurant and there are two other snack bars located in the park as well. If the kids are bored Waiting for mom and dad to finish eating, give them a couple of quarters and set them loose in a video game- room just off the main res- taurant. According to Mr. Hennings, "It's an afford- able entertainment." Every month features a EMMERSON 153 QUEEN ST. Coming up on August 14 and 15 is a Rough Stock Rodeo which will feature calf roping, bare- back bronco riding and many other attractions. But Pleasure Valley doesn't close down with the end of summer. During the winter months, the park is converted into a cross- country ski trail. Belgian work horses can be rented to pull sleighs through the woods and the chalet can also be rented. Pleasure Valley is located one mile north of Claremont on Brock Road in the Town- ship of Uxbridge. Admission to the park is $2. for adults and $1.50 for children under 14 during the week or $2. on weekends. Pre-schoolers and Senior Citizens are free. Pleasure Valley is open Monday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and weekends from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m, This is the first of a summer series on entertain- ment spots close to Scugog Township. The purpose is to inform residents about various entertainment areas. Next week the Star tours Parkwood Estate in Oshawa. This youngster seems to be enjoying the 400 foot waterslide at Pleasure Valley. The slide is a star attraction at the park which is located one mile north of Claremont. Bicycle accident Boy receives minor injuries A nine year old Port Perry boy escaped serious injury last week after he drove his bicycle into the side of a trailer being towed behind a Township Works department truck. Durham Police say the truck driven by Cy Rahm, was northbound on Water Street near the Nort Street intersection, about 3:00 P.M. Thursday. The youngster, David Buxey of Port Perry, apparently was riding his bike from Birdseye Park and swerved into the side of the trailer. ' The youth was taken to Port Perry hospital and a police spokesman descibed the injuries as minor. No charges were laid as a result of the accident. The boy's bike, however, was damaged badly. / PORT PERRY MINI CINEMA 'T ] THURSDAY - 8 P.M. FRIDAY - 7 P.M. : | "Clash of the Titans" ; 'FRIDAY-9P.M. SAT. SUN, MON. - 8 P.M.
