There are a lot of lovers of frogs' legs out there and, as a result, Ontario's bullfrog population is suffering. The Ministry of Natural Resources is so concerned it has made changes which affect this year's bullfrog harvesting regulations. "I believe the changes will help to maintain bullfrogs as a harvestable resource in our province," Ontario Natural Resources Minister Alan Pope said. First of all, the season will open later -- on July 21 instead of July 1. It will remain open until Octobe 15, inclusive. ' Those wishing to take bull- frogs for personal consump- tion now need a licence -- available free of charge from any ministry district office. The $25 licence fee for commercial bullfrog har- vesters remains unchanged. Also, the daily bag limit and possession limit of bull- frogs for personal consump- tion has been reduced to 10 from 15 bullfrogs. To prevent people from taking immature, under- sized bullfrogs, size restric- tions have been introduced in Lanark County and the regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton. In these areas, bullfrogs must have a lower leg (tibia) length of at least five centimetres. The lower leg length indicates the maturity of bullfrogs and is easier to measure than the total length of a live, strugg- ling frog. a as home runs and Joey Muzik who hit a triple.
