Colonel Ottomar Herrmann," Master of Ceremonies, helped his father, the late 'Colonel Herrman, save their precious Lipizzan Stallions from the advance of the Russian Army during World War II. Under the direction - of Amercian General Patton they made their escape, travelling by night. and hiding by day. At the same time, the Lipizzaners from the Spanish Riding School in Vienna and from the Stud in . Piber were also under the protection of General Patton. The incredible story of how the rare breed was saved can be seen in Walt Disney's '"'Miracle of the White Stallions." Only nobility was allowed the prestige of owning the Lipizzan horses which have been in the Herrmann family since the Thirty Years War (1618-1648). A direct ancestor, the Knight Ritter vop Schoebel was, at the time, given Lipizzan Stallions by Ferdinand II.
