She and daughter, Diane, were on their way to Oshawa Hospital to sign papers for a critical operation for Mr. Wheeler when she suffered a fatal heart attack. Her daughter, Connie and Ernie -Swain were holidaying in British Columbia with Bryan and Judy Mountjoy and had to make a fast return. Like- wise, Bob and Shirley Wheeler were camping in Eastern' Ontario and they were reached with difficulty. Grandsons Mike and Tim Wheeler returned hame from Like Louise for the funeral on Wednesday. Also sympathy is extended to new residents Ed and tragic death of Ed'§ nephew in Alberta where he was working. The funeral was held in Toronto. Sorry that Mrs. Royal Whitfield is not well. She and Mr. Whitfield are at the home of their daugher, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Degeer. Mrs. Whitfield spent some time in Port Perry Hospital. Pleased to report that Mr. David McLean, Mr. Mar- wood McKee and Ted McMahon are all home from hospital following surgery. Margaret and Ted Kemp, Aileen VanCamp and Ken News from Prince Albert by Earline Armstrong Bruce Martyn, Roy Robertson, Everett Kerr and Earl Martyn are back from an 8 day trip to the North_ West Territories where they enjoyed fishing Arcuc Char in the Arctic Ocean and Lake Trout in Great Bear Lake, while there they stayed at Plummers Lodge at Great Bear Lake. A trip I am sure the four of you well deserve. Recent visitors at the Joe Baxters on Quaker Road, over the past two weeks have * been Marjories sister, Liz O'Brian from Ottawa, her niece, Patti Savage, husband Bob and children, Laura and Paul from Kamloops, B.C. Mr. and Mrs. Kaas Schuetz from Baarn Netherlands, and Mr. and Mrs. Gene Buchma from Jackson New Jersey. They seem to come from all over to see the Baxters. Marjorie and daughter Catherine hung up the "Welcome Mat" and.enjoy- ed a short trip to Stratford Ontario to attend "'The Mikado'. Fifteen tables of euchre were played at Prince Albert Hall on Thursday, July 29 - Ladies High went to Dorothy McDiarmid, second - Phyllis Clarke and low Mary Sweet- man, on the mens side - high was Ross Griffin, second was Carl Gimblett and low was Norman Birkett. Jeffrey and David Kemp stayed with grandparents, Stephen and Susan Saywell while their parents were on holiday. Mr. and Mrs. Neil Malcolm attended the regular Open Air Service of the Hope Circuit which was held on Sunday at the home of Mary Lou and David Kellogg. Guest speaker was Hugh McCullum, Editor of the Observer. Following the service which was attended by about 200, coffee and fruit bread was served. This interesting arrangement for summer services for this three point charge has the service at different home each Sunday going from point to point. Everyone brings their lawn chairs and comes in informal dress. The Joint Services moved to the United Church for August on Sunday morning at the regular time of 10:00 a.m. Rev. Dale Davis con- ducted the service and preached a very thoughtful sermon on Lambs and the Shepherd. Lynn McLaughlin sang a beautiful solo, The Lord's Prayer. A pot luck dinner was announced for Sunday, t 15 at 12:45 to be held in the C.E. Room. After spending two months in Lake Louise, both Marilyn Green and Elizabeth Kelly phoned home on the week- end. They report lots of work combined with many interesting jaunts to other tourist highlights. They appreciate the many letters they have received and hope for more in the remaining five weeks that they will be here. Plans are well underway for the 117th annual Blackstock Fair to be held on Saturday, August 28. Improvements are being made by the Cattle Committee to the loading ramp and extensions added to the tie racks. Water will be piped out to that area. Guernsey: A fine financial statement showed that the Tractor Pull had been very successful. Several contests are need- ing competitors - Bread slicing, log sawing and frog jumping. They will be under security at all times. Catherine Corden is in charge of the amateur contest this year. The directors were pleased to know that the Durham County Dairy Princess con- test will be held at our fair this year. A committee was put in for the dance on Fair night. This dance will be for all ages with music by Ross Jack- man. Bar privileges and lunch will be part of the plans.
