by M. Dearborn . The softball season is quickly winding down for all three age groups and shortly the league playoffs will be under way. Last Monday, in Blackstock Thompson's Village Market players host- ed Caesarea Fish and Chips. After a well played game on both sides, Thompsons came out on top 15 to 7. For the winners David Andrews had . 2 homers, and Joel Schry- burt made an outstanding catch on a fly ball. For Caesarea, Melissa Haines had a double, Clifford Pelrine singled and Katie Thistle played a strong game. Also in Blackstock last Monday, Lishmans was hosting the Country Up- holstery Blues from Nestle- ton. This match up saw Lishmans come out victorious 20 to 15. For Lishmans, Jan Heyes had 2 homers, and Stephen Staniland came through with 3 homers. On Tuesday evening, the Intermediate boys and girls came to play with one game played in Nestleton and the other in Blackstock. In Nestleton the Don Frew team was playing host to the first place H.W. Mason Haulage team and they showed their first place strength, coming up with a solid 28 to 14 win. For Mason, Kevin Gibson smacked 4 homers, Greg Stapleton add- ed 2 and Jeff Beddome added 1 homer. For the Frew team, Stephen Dearborn managed Ladies golf A good turnout for golfing on August 3rd at Sunnybrae with low net going to Marilyn Durnford with 28, low gross to Vera Brown with 46 and only 11 putts. Ev. Sheffield had a chip-in on no.5. With only one month of golfing left, Ev. Sheffield's team has pulled ahead and Donna Shanley leads the ladies in points. Port clinches first The Port Perry Pee Wee MoJacks pounded East Gwillimbury 17-2 last week and clinched first place in the York-Durham Pee Wee League. Jeff Cockerton pitched 5 strong innings allowing only 5 hits. Hitting for the MoJacks were Lee Wilbur with 3 doubles and a single, John Miller with 3 singles, David Culbert and Trevor Clark each with 2 hits. Craig Menzies, David Burnett and Jeff Cockerton had one hit each. Greg Warriner hit a home run in the top of the first inning. MoJacks ended the schedule with 13 wins, 2 ties and 1 loss. This week they will be starting 0.A.S.A. playdowns and league play offs, s0 come down to the bail park this Thursday night for some exciting action. 2 homers. Meanwhile in Blackstock Turners Green Giants were defeating Port Perry Funland. For the victors Jim Vernon got 2 homers and Scott Fletcher added one. On Wednesday evening because of a previous rain out, H.W.Mason got into action again, this time against Marj Tripp. Real Estate Limited. Again H.W. Mason ended up in the winning column outscoring the Tripp team 14 to, 9. This was one of the best games of the week with either side close to winning. Tyler James for Tripp played a very strong game. the other rain out was played Thurs- day with Turners Green Giants hosting Don Frew and Sons. Turners came out ahead 17 to 6, aided by two homers from Kris Pollock and a very good catch by Aaron Lishman which caused a double play. For Frew, Adam Cummings made a single handed double play. With the regular season now over for the Seniors, Haines, Lorne Lee, and Blackstock Lions enter the playoffs. Even though Port Perry Kinsmen did not qualify for playoff action, they show signs that this young team will most certainly be there next year. Port Old Timers win hockey tournament 2-0 in Ernestown Port Perry Howard Forder Realtor Oldtimers took part in the Annual Ernestown Puck-n-ball Tournament on July 31 and August 1 and 2, 1982. This tournament consisted of Lob Ball and hockey, Port Perry entering in" both categories. Port Perry won their first game of ball, defeating their opponents quite easily by a score of 11-3. - The first game of hockey saw Port defeating the Peel County Catholic Teachers, by a score of 6-2. Scoring for Port was Ed Teno, Garry Edgar and Garry Geer with 2 goals each. Game 2 in Lob ball, Port again came out on the winning side by a score of 10-2, completing the first days events. Ports next scheduled hockey game was a thriller for their many supporters, when they came up with a tie, with less than two minutes remaining in the game. Port came up against a very evenly matched Athens team. Garry Geer scored both goals for Port with help from his line mates, Ed Teno, Jim Burnett, Ralph Fairman and Grant Menzies. Port was eliminated from Lob ball in their third game, when they were defeated 11-6, on the "A" Division side. In the championship hockey game, Port Perry met a strong, determined Kingston Township team. This was another exciting game for the fans, with no score until the last eight minutes of the final period, when Garry Geer notched one assisted by Dave Barkey. Vern Willis picked up the assurance marker two minutes later assisted by 20 WATER STREET PORT PERRY Garry Edgar and Peter Morris. Port held onto their 2-0 lead and came home champions of the "A" Division in hockey. This was a very well run tournament and both players and their families enjoyed their weekend stay at King- ston.
