It was 80 nice on Sunday to welcome some of the former U.C.W. members at our annual service. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves even the ladies taking part and we are so fortunate to have our own built in speaker Mrs. Shirley Baster. Mrs. Faye Ashton took charge of the service with help from Mrs. Jean Jeffery, Mrs. Eileen Slute, Mrs. Alice Ross, Mrs. Elizabeth Taylor, Mrs. Vera Brown, Mrs. Elva Kerry, Mrs. Jenny Watson, solo by Mrs. Lill Lindsey and let's not forget that unique choir who sang "The Urge to Grow". Gathering the offering was Mrs. Marion Harper and Mrs. Nancy Skelding. Mrs. Stella Asling and Mrs. Ruth Ashton welcomed the guests at the door. THE UXBRIDGE KINSMEN PRESENT At the euchre held on Friday evening winners for the ladies were: 1st Verna Draper, 2nd Ruby Birkett and low to Dorothy Whitting- ton; Mens 1st Joe McCaslin, 2nd Harold Cornish and low to Wm. Carnegie. Freeze-out winners were Jeanette Houg- land and Bill Brown with Lena and Tom Ogden coming 2nd. There will be another euchre this Friday at 8 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Hillis Wilbur and Lee spent Thursday with a visit to Canada's Wonder- land. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Bailey and Mrs. Dora Geer visited Mrs. Pearl Hodgson in Oshawa on Friday on the occasion of her 89th birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Field- ing were Sunday supper guests with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fielding and girls. Mr. and Mrs. Eric Carre and family were camping at Sibbald Point on the week- end. Mrs. Mildred Thompson was a supper guest on Tues- day of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd White of Brooklin and on Sunday had supper with her mother, Mrs. Miller at Mount Albert. Best wishes to Mrs. Dora Geer who left the community to take up residence in Uxbridge, and a special welcome to Mr. and Mrs. Jim Beelby who have moved into the Geer house. Results of Friday's euchre were ladies 1st to Lena Ogden, 2nd to Ruby Birkett and low to Viola Campsall. Mens 1st to Ken Whittington, 2nd Norman Birkett and low to Hardy Noble. Freeze-out winners were Tom and Lena Ogden 1st with Viola Camp- sall and Owen Gray coming 2nd. There will be another euchre this Friday at 8 p.m. Mrs. Mildred Thompson visited with her mother Mrs. Miller at Mount Albert on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Slute spent a few days last week at Wallaston Lake with Mr, and Mrs. Cruikshank. Kenneth Slute is presently holidaying at the Lake. On Monday the Slutes along with Mr. and Mrs. Larry Ross and children visited the Metro Zoo. Mr. and Mrs. Doug. Taylor and children and Mrs. Vera Taylor attended a pot luck supper and shower on Wed- nesday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Hollinger of Cedar Grove in honour of Mr. Ray Beare and Danette Grove who will be married in the near future. Mrs. Marion Snodden of Oshawa and Mrs. Crosier visited Miss Vera Prentice at Uxbridge Cottage Hospital on Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Walker of Scarborough were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Doug. MacSween and boys. Mrs. Margaret Miller of Mississauga visited with her parents for a few days. On Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Sutcliffe, Margaret, Georgina, and Kathy were - supper guests. of Mr. and' Mrs. Stewart Bray in Raglan. Big win for Bantams The Port Perry Bantam ball team worked hard all year and the work paid off as they defeated Stouffville 7-0 on Thursday, August 5th. Pitcher Steve Lee threw a hitter and centre fielder Fred Cockerton used his radar to track down numberous balls. Port didn't get the bats - moving until the 4th inning when Steve Lee, Clan Dick- son and Paul Robinson singled and then Brian Stevenson doubled and three runs scored. In the sixth inning 4 more runs scored on hits from Fred Cockerton, Paul Goreski, Ed Summers, Steve Lee and Jeff Wray. Port allowed only 1 error. The next game was Monday, August 9 at 8:30 p.m. Young gymnast trains for Peace Games Mark Brown, a 14 year old Port Perry gymnast will compete in the Peace Games to be held this weekend in Indianapolis, Indiana. Mark, who is going into grade nine this fall, has been a member of the Scar- borough Winstons Gym Club since June and has been - training five days per week at the club to prepare for the Peace Games this weekend. He will compete in seven categories: floor, vault, rings, parallel bars, high bar and pommel horse. = Mark began as a gymnast in his native England and has won several school events since coming to Canada two years ago with his family, Oldtimers win (From page 17) Cochrane, Murray Birkett Garry Harvey (Mamager) Robert Free (Trainer).
