Tammie Veltri (Reader) of R.R.3, Port Perry, graduated from Durham College on May 29, 1982 with a Certificate of Legal Secretary. a \ by Harvey Malcolm A number from our community attended the Manvers Arena Pork BBQ on Saturday evening followed by a dance. The attendance we understand was some- what disappointing. Miss Audrie Brown spent a day with her niece, Mrs. Judy Jeanes and twins at Sparrow Lake this past week. On Saturday, Audrie entertained Barbara and Paul Pickett of Toronto. Corrie and Harvey Malcolm attended a BBQ dinner and social evening on ay a (A Recent graduation Ken Torrens with his bride = With a Law firm in Toronto the former Colleen this year. McEnery. Yelverton Girls team - the "Bluebirds" particpated in a ball tournament this week end at Oakwood with little luck - lost 2 and won 1. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Malcolm were Sunday evening dinner guests of Mrs. Evelyn Werry at her cottage in Caesarea. Corrie and Harvey Malcolm joined a group of fellow U.C.0. Directors and their wives or friends on Tuesday evening to see the "Bluejays" whomp the 'Kansas Royals' 9-2. While the game was most enjoy- able sitting around after- wards for over an hour to take your turn with over 18,000 other fans to "get on the road again was slightly frustrating". Two exits for such a crowd seems more than a little ridiculous. Per- haps a superdome out in the suburbs of T.O. isn't as ridiculous as it might seem. Our community was deeply shocked and sadden- ed to learn of the tragic passing of Mr. Ken Thurd eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Thurd of this community and his girl- friend, Miss Jane Carter of Peterborough, in a boating accident off B.C. coast. Apparently they were boat- ing with a 2 seater kayak and were reported missing. They were later found in the open sea apparently having died from exposure still wearing their life preservers. Deep- est sympathy is extended to Betty and Bert Thurd and Pamela Doreen Hopkins and Ronald Wayne Wana- maker, both of Oshawa, exchanged marriage vows in Kingsview United Church on Saturday, June 19, 1982. Rev. J.T. Irwin officiated at the ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hopkins of 115 Jones Ave., Oshawa. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Wanamaker of 200 Central Park N., Oshawa. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a white chiffon gown trimmed with French illusion lace, bishop sleeves and a chapel train with a matching head- piece. Anita Starasts of Oshawa was maid of honour. Bridesmaids were Mary Lee Wanamaker, and Mrs. Carol Harrison, both of Oshawa. Flower girl was Janet 32 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday August 10, 1982 Yelverton and area news family in their sad bereave- ment. The large turnout of well wishes from near and far was ample proof of the popularity of this couple among a wide range of folk both young and old. On Sat- urday evening, Mr. Art Rowan provided a well worded address paying tribute to Janet and Ted on behalf of neighbours and friends and a purse of money was presented to them to purchase a memento of their choice to commemorate the occasion. Among the miscellany of gifts was a monetary gift presented by Clarence Page on behalf of the Farmers Mutual of Ont- ario with whom Ted has been associated as agent for many years. It was a pleasure to greet again Mr. and Mrs. Jim Spenceley and family of Lethbridge, Alberta. Messrs. Wanamaker-Hopkins -- Harrison of Oshawa. Bradley James of Edmon- ton Alta., was ring bearer. Gary Hall of Oshawa was best man. Ushers were John Craw- ford and Brian Marsh, both of Oshawa. Junior ushers were Christopher James of Edmonton Alta., and Derek Hopkins of London, Ont. The reception was held at Valleyview Park, Oshawa. The couple honeymooned in Southern Ontario. The newlyweds will reside in Oshawa. Prior to her marriage to Ronald Wayne Wanamaker, Pamela Doreen Hopkins was entertained at several showers. A miscellaneous shower was held at the home of Mrs. Gertrude Wanamaker on May 28th, 1982. The shower was hosted by Mrs. Donna Wanamaker and Mrs. Sharon Wanamaker. 4 There's lots to do in Ontario parks There are many activities besides the old favourites, like camping, picnicking and swimming, in provincial parks. You can walk a Bird watching, canoeing, Smokey Bear, tree planting, slide-talks, films and hikes all form a large part of the '""what-to-do" in Lindsay Jim and Brian Spenceley of Calgary, Alberta all of whom had flown home for the auspicios occasion. Many more years of marital life as the sincere wish for Janet and Ted complete with health and happiness.
