As always the Chamber of Commerce Superstar Contest drew a large crowd to the stage in front of the Post Office last Friday after- noon. The event, which has been part of the Western Weekend activities for about the past five years, pits the talents of local men and women against each other in a series of amusing events. This year, Bobbie Drew was back to try and re capture the Superstar trophy, while those trying to take it away were: Scugog Chamber of Commerce president Miriam Price, Kathy Kroonenburg, Mayor Jerry Taylor of Scugog, Mayor Bill' Ballinger of Uxbridge and Durham Regional Chairman Garry Herrema. Scugog by Mrs. Earl Reader Recently, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Carter took a weeks vacation when they motored to Sault Ste. Marie and took the days train ride thro' the beautiful Agawa Canyon. Mrs. Jim Gerrow and children had two weeks vacation at Jan's mothers cottage on an island in Muskoka Lake. Jim managed to get in on the weekends. Miss Linda Eastwood, Helen Redman's niece is becoming a seasoned traveller as she spent three weeks in England in April and has recently returned from a three week trip to Australia. Mrs. Marion Hughes of Port View Beach who spent several weeks at Sunnybrook Hospital is now recuperating at her home. We trust she will soon be well again. So the flagnappers have made their third grab on one home, this time being greedy enough to take the pole foo which was the only way they could obtain the flag. We sure do wonder what is their motive. Are they watching this column to see their nervy act recorded? Are they THE STUDIO OF PERFORMING "121 Brock St. North 24 CLASSES OPENING! 8 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday August 10, 1982 Women dominate the men in annval ~~ Superstar contest The contestants were put through a series of five events which ranged from blowing-up balloons until they burst to picking jelly- beans out of cream pies without using their hands. But possibly one of the most amusing tricks they had to perform this year was removing a pair of panti- hose from a box and proceed- ing to put them on over their clothes - with oven mitts on their hands. Other skills the six con- testants had to achieve were spitting watermelon pits into a dish, and drawing humerous faces on partners.
