Before or after the Fair - Enjoy Dining with Us! Re Ths nu cass EES Making people is Audrey's hobby Audrey McNeill of Port Perry makes people as a hobby. Sound odd? Not when you see the life-like stuffed creations in her home on oh \Caleb Street which houses 16 of the 20 '"'people" she has made so far. It all began when her daughter attended an art show in Oshawa which fea- tured a display of these creations. Insisting her mother could do the same, Mrs. McNeill tried her hand at them. Her first tries were an old woman and a little girl. Both were later sold to a well-known author after Mrs. McNeill's son took them to work with him at CBC. "Decorative companions" is what Mrs. McNeil calls them. She adds that when one of them is gone, she and family actually miss it. The figures are artistically made and designed right down to the last detail. On one such character even the toenails are painted. The figures are made from chicken wire, polyester quilt batting, and nylons. It takes three pairs of nylons to com- plete one person. The head is shaped first and the only thing attached later are the arms. This way, says Mrs. McNeill, nothing can come apart. She also combs stores for second-hand clothes, and accessories which are later re-constructed to fit the doll. The hair which is made from a wig is bought new. Total cost of the person is around $25 to $30. "lI enjoy making them," says Mrs. McNeill adding that they are a pleasant past- time during long winter evenings. Mrs. McNeill has just recently completed a Chinaman for a customer who wanted it for the opening of his art shop in Toronto. Her next project is to create a person for Port Perry's Town Hall. Handsome though they are, her twenty "people" have not sat idley in her home. Rather they have been put to work in the past as part of the audience in the CBC magical show, "Journey Through Illusion," and have been displayed at the Scugog Museum for school tours. This year they will be shown on national television on Summer Maga- zine and can be seen next at the Scugog Memorial Library. Never knowing just what kind of "person" she will create, Mrs. McNeill says she will continue with this fascinating-hobby. County Town Singers to hold auditions On Wednesdays, Sept- ember 15th, 22nd and 29th, 1982, the County Town Singers will be holding audi- tions for the choir. The audi- tion starts at 8:00 p.m. in the Library of Whitby Senior Public School located on Garden Street in Whitby. . We are a mixed choir of approximately 70 voices and our primary goal is to sing, - entertain and raise money for charity while we do so. The County Town Singers have been responsible for raising over $100,000 for charity over the past 15 years. We have gained an international reputation. . from travel to Europe, the U.S.A. and the Maritime Provinces. We sing for the love of it and anyone who has seen us perform will attest to this fact. There are openings in all sections but it should be stressed that we need male voices. Those auditioning should come prepared to sing something of their own choice, bringing the music if possible. What we are looking for are people who enjoy singing and are willing to work enthusiastically within our group. The ability to read music is an asset, but not essential. For further information regarding the audition, please contact Mrs. Angela Willis at 668-5629. ~ GRADUATION Janet Blair graduated from Centennial College, Scarborough, as a registered nurse on June 25,:1982. Janet is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Dale of R.R 4, Sunderland, and the late Gordon Blair. Janet is a graduate of Brock High School, Canning- ton. oo -- -- -- -_-- -%) <= 5 -< © = ----- = a -n = --- = -- = ---y (--§ x pg s --- =) x. o 3 B ee] o an v yy O nl > = 10% OFF | MATERIAL & LABOUR I'll be glad to come and give you a FREE - NO OBLIGATION estimate at your convenience! f I Call "Chris" at 985-8723 | SCUGOG UPHOLSTERING | L | | AER." brags coon al iota A a AER pe RE RA ee
