Grace, a dessert luncheon of pie and ice cream prepared by Mrs. Hoskin and her group was enjoyed. Mrs. Pat Sleep, president opened the meeting with the Institute Ode and Collect, and a reading entitled "The Farmwife's Chapel" which involved gardening. The minutes were read and approve. Mrs. R. Mclaughlin read an .article which emphasized the motto, "Look up, Not down, For- ward, Not back, Out, Not in." Mrs. Hoskin, convenor of the month's theme, Cultural Activities read a humerous poem called "Testament of a Farmer." The guest speaker Mrs. Petrie introduced by Mrs. McLaughlin gave a most interesting talk on Gardening. The first dealt with bulbs and told us how to plant what materials to use and the care in growth. Bulbs planted indoors now should be in bloom by Christ- mas. She then had a question and answer session and the members were full of ques- tions about fushias, geran- iums, african violets, plant food etc. Mrs. Petrie was most helpful with informa- "tion and advice and she was thanked most sincerely by the members. Thank you letters were received by two 4-H girls, Kelly McLaughlin and Marilyn Green. The trea- surer gave her report and also read a letter from our adopted girl to which we are replying. The roll call was answered in exchange of a plant or slip. It was decided to give a donation to each of the three 4-H clubs and to give the same prizes as other years as the High School Commencement. Plans were made re- garding the Fun Fair at Solina, Oct. 12, the Area Convention Nov. 2 and 3, and the Lion's Club Dinner catering for the season. Mrs. Adams told about the course she and Mrs. Martyn Took on "Food for all Season." This informative course is to be given by Jean and Dora at the Rec. Centre, Oct.15 from 10-4 p.m. All the ladies of the community are welcome to attend. The W.1. is for sale at $200 and is on display at Port Gifts in Port Perry. Next meeting will be at Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. when Nestleton and Shirley will be our guests. Howard Bailey and Brian Van Camp will tell of their summer activities.
