Designed to exhibit as many of the organ's varied capacities as possible, the programme encompassed old and new, classical and modern material. The intro- ductory offering, Walther's Variations 'Jeus Meine Freude,' strikingly illus- trated through variations of an old German hymn tune, the various tonal combina- tions of the organ. Sonata IT by Mendelssohn followed, a composition with wide and powerful ranges of expression. The artist elevated this classic to greatness, especially in the concluding Fuga: Allegro Moderato segment. Cesar Franck's Fantasie in A with its four interwoven motifs proved a challenge for Dr. Reesor but he effec- tively translated Franck for his rapt audience. The programme's most interesting composition was Reesor's own Triptyque, a ; iy triple variation on the fam- JS A iliar hymn Praise My Soul - i Cum Rhondda with its lt fantasy-like interludes, : 3 March Doucement, haunting 2 SE oar and undulating, and the final melody Praise My Soul Kor A large crowd was on hand last Sunday afternoon to hear Alan Reesor at the treated Toccata i keyboards of the $94,000 Keates-Geissler pipe organ at the Port Perry United Dal i ea me id eL Church. The audience rose applauding to herald the artist's virtuosity. The concert's opening remarks had been furnished by Glen Taylor, resident-- organist. The official introd- duction of Dr. Reesor came from Margaret Dryman, current president of the Royal College of Organists and a talented organist in her own right. As a special tribute to Mrs. Drynan, Dr. Reesor closed his afternoon programme with her own Prelude in C Minor as his Jackson, who was present for this special occasion. Age six was a long time back: Dr. Reesor has done much in the musical world since then: church music studies in Toronto, a Master's in Music from the Eastman School, a doctorate from King's College in Halifax, as well as concert performances in England and France (where he will again perform in 1983) and recitals on CBC radio.
