wv SAA PAR aida ve ellie rar y After slow start in '82, building permit issuesrise in September Maybe it is the falling interest rates, but for the first time this year the value of building permits issued in Scugog Township increased in September over the same month in 1981. The Township monthly building activity report tabled at the Monday meeting of council shows the value of permits in Sept- ember was $575,400, more than double the value of permits during September of last year. The Township issued eight permits for new single Historical Choir performs in Colborne A former Blackstock minister, Rev. Vic Parsons was instrumental in inviting the Lake Scugog Historical Society Choir to the 120th Anniversary services in Colborne last Sunday. Hazel Slemmon, speaking on behalf of the choir, told the Star that the 35 members that went to the Colborne United Church to participate 7 in the service had a marvelous time. The choir sang in the morning service and again during the evening concert and service. The Lake Scugog Histor- ical Society Choir, under the direction of Mr. Norman Watson will perform again this Sunday at the Albert St. United Church in Oshawa for their evening anniversary, 5 5 EE *RE-ELECT* NEIL HUNTER Councillor SCUGOG TOWNSHIP WARD | For Information Call: 985-7456 LIER s EU YE Ta Bl TR a Wa a TeX & e Yo] o JVI F214 STE Tela Ie Ta TRYZ eV] gl o] [oYo! Despite the up-turn in September, 1982 has not been a good year for building activity in Scugog Township. To date, there have been just 43 single family home permits compared with 100 for the same period last year. The total value of all new building, including alterations. stands at $38 million so far in 1982. a far cry from the $7.2 million value for last year. Even if interest rates con- tinue to creep lower, it is most unlikely that construc- tion in the Township this vear will catch up to the rate of one vear ago Scugog 1s not alone this year as other municipalities in Durham are in the middle of a building slowdown. High interest rates and a gen- erally sluggish economy are the main reasons Oppose licence (From page 1) Scugog Township does not as arule make any comment on liquor licence applica- tions within the municipality so long as the facility meets zoning regulations and is in a designated "wet" area. Members of council who voted for opposing the licence felt that a dining room serving liquor would be more than just an ancillary use of the facility. A riding club and stables are permitted in the rural zone. The hearing had originally been slated for November 4, but was changed by the Liquor Board to November 9. Artist displays work The art of Mr. Leslie A. Parkes of Port Perry is on display for the remainder of this week at the Ronden Art Gallery on Bond Street in Oshawa. Mr. Parkes told the Star he was absolutely delighted by the public response during last Sunday's showing, and was pleased by the number of sales of his works. One of the pieces included in the show entitled "Municipal Garbage" won Best of Show award at the McLaughlin Gallery last May is on display at the Gallery. PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday October 26, 19862 -- 3 The Community Memorial Hospital Building Fund received another shot in the arm last week with a $500 donation from the Centennial Loyal Orange Lodge.
