It was learned that representa- tives of the Island and Man- chester Churches had called upon Rev. and Mrs. E. Linstead one recent evening to present a Projection table and basket of fruit in apprec- iation for Rev. Linstead's years of Service in the Scugog Pastoral Charge, prior to-his illness. We were also pleased to hear that his health is greatly improved. On Wednesday afternoon, nine members of the 3rd U.C.W. met at the home of Mrs. Betty Hamelinck. Mrs. Elizabeth Fulford, as the guest speaker, gave an explanation of Community Care. All reported a worth- while afternoon. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Joyce Fuller at Fralick's Beach. Saturday, the thirteenth was not an unlucky day for the Mother's Auxiliary in the Scout movement when they held their bazaar and bake sale at the Island Hall. It was the culmination of a year of planning, co-operation and hard work by the mothers. Tho' there were less mothers to help, the financial results were higher. Mrs. Bev. Brown -of Conc. 6 gave a short opening speech. There were crafts of all kinds including wood carvings, bird houses and feeders, ducks, leather goods and others. The Guides worked on earning their badges by serving tea. A highlight of the after- noon was when an afghan donated by Elsie Pogue was to finally get a lucky owner. Accordingly Margaret Morrow was asked to make the draw and came up with the name of Mrs. Ernest Beelby. When the occasion was over it was noted that Marilyn Fitchett, leader of the boys, and Sharen Bobbie, leader of the girls, were two happy ladies. On Sunday morning, guests began to arrive very early from the Oshawa area to the Scugog Island United church when the Sydenham Kiwanis Club honoured us with one of their semi-annual church visits to conduct a complete service. We were much impressed with their love of music, the co- operation among the members and a united desire to do their bit for mankind or should I say humanity. The Sunday School' enjoy- ed the early part of the service and especially the special story for them. The Church was well filled and most of the congregat- ion enjoyed a social hour afterwards at the Hall. Next Sunday should be another interesting and instructive Service when Professor Doug Chricton from the Queen's Theo- logical College in Kingston will be a guest speaker at the Island United and Man- chester. Then on Monday, re- presentatives of the Social Planning Council will meet at Emiels - 12:15 of Nov- ember 22. On Tuesday, November 23, you will have your one and only chance to attend a card party and bake sale sponsor- ed by the "Grace" U.C.W. at the Island Hall. The next night November 24th is the night for the "Head" Mystery Sister 'Supper at 6:30 p.m. It is noted that the Scugog United Church needs to in- crease its number of red hymn books. Our original books in 1977 were $4.50 but are now $7.50. It is possible some people would like to donate some or the money for such, perhaps in memory of a loved one. If you care to do this please contact the treasure - Mrs. Roy Free- man. She will give a receipt and put an appropriate sticker in the book. What seemed a dream on May 8, 1982 when the sod was turned on the lot on Simcoe Street in Prince Albert, is now rapidly becoming a reality. Through the ded- icated labours of many members of the congreg- ation the building has de- veloped into its present state. Week after week the new church site is looking less like a construction site and more and more like an established building in the Prince Albert neighbour- hood. Many hours of hard work have been donated by church membes of all ages, under the direction of some very capable tradesmen of the congregation. At present the 220 member A congregation uses the facil- ities of the St. John's Pres- byterian Church for worship services. However, on Sun- day, December 5, the con- gregation hopes to be able to move into its own new facil- ities. Many people in the comm- unity have watched the building rise from the ground with great interest. Everyone who is interested will have an opportunity to view the building during the community open house which is being planned for sometime in early January.
