MoJacks on the move with three more wins The Port Perry MoJacks invited Santa Claus to the Scugog Arena Sunday after- noon, but the jolly elf in the red suit didn't bring much Christmas cheer for visiting Uxbridge Bruins. MoJacks built an 8-2 lead by the end of the second period, then held off a belat- ed drive in the third by the Bruins to win 8-5 and capture two more important points in their bid to overtake Bow- manville for second spot in the Central Junior C stand- ings. g The victory came on the heels of a 9-3 thrashing of the same Bruins Friday in Ux- bridge, and a 9-2 win over Rice Lake last Wednesday. MoJacks now have 31 points, one ahead of Little Britain and six behind Bowmanville. MoJacks spotted the Bruins a 1-0 lead as Frank Vankessel scored at 1:02 of the first, but five minutes later, hard-working Dave Alexander lofted a back- hand shot from 15 feet out to tie the game. Todd Wilbur put MoJacks ahead for good at 8:10 after Brian Mikkelsen dug the puck from behind the Bruin cage. Mikkelsen set up Jeff Johnstone at 8:45 to make it 3-1, and then Scott Wallace clicked for a pair of goals, the first on a fine pass from John Vaz and the second at 19:38 on another good pass from Derek Edwards. Bruins got a power play goal at 2:29 of the second to make it 5-2 when Scott Harper fooled MoJack goalie Clay Lovering with a long shot from outside the blue line. Scott Dezan was in the right "spot for a perfect deflection off a shot from Al Engberg to make it 6-2, and then the line of Wallace, Vaz, and Tim "Parker went to work for two quick goals in less than a minute to make it SEE HET ET rd oA NE CE RA AER LAR EE - Pa BEA x ae Vol.117 No.3 NG REA A AN ITS £7 0G a J Poa 41 # BA TY at | LY . fF eo™® 48 CL ONAL ey Y, eid Sia pe Rais Sa ei ie Sai iran edie Tuesday, December 21, 1982 Second Section 8-2. Vaz found the range as he was curising in front and then Parker clicked on a three on one break as Mo- Jacks put the game out of reach. What's a Christmas Party without Santa Claus and the jolly guy was on hand for the annual MoJacks special Christmas game Sunday afternoon. Santa even agreed to drop the puck for the start of the game The Port Perry MoJacks pushed their winning streak to four game afternoon with an 8-5 victory over Uxbridge Bruins. MoJacks built an 8-2 lead with Uxbridge captain Frank Van Kessell and MoJack captain Todd Wilbur. The Family Christmas Game has become a successful annual event for the MoJack club with lots of gifts for spectators. unday Bruins fought back to make a game of it in the third period with two goals by Grant Curnow in the opening minute and another at 6:53 by Trevor Till to make it 8-5. But that was as far as they could get as MoJacks tightened up to pre- serve the win. After a rather slow first period, the game turned into a pretty exciting affair, especially in the third period with some heavy hitting and wide open play. It was a clean game for the most part with MoJacks taking eight minors and Bruins seven. Port Perry outshot Ux- bridge 41 to 30, but Clay Lovering liad to be very sharp in nets to keep Bruins from pulling ahead. He made some fine stops, especially when the team was playing short-handed. MoJacks were without kegulars Jamie Bird, Bob Horton, John Fusco and Tim Thompson, but John Vaz and Jeff Johnstone filled the gaps nicely, each of them getting a goal and two assists. Scott Wallace had two assists to go with his pair of goals. In Uxbridge Friday night Tim Thompson had two goals as did Scott Wallace, with singles from Jamie Bird, Todd Wilbur, Dave Alexander, Brian Mikkelsen and Glen McKay. Wilbur chipped in with three assists and Bird had a pair to keep himself in the top three in league scoring. In Rice Lake last Wed- nesday, defenseman Al Eng- berg found the scoring touch with a goal and four assists to pace MoJacks to the 9-2 victory. Alexander and Wallace each had two goals. MoJacks recored now stands at 13 wins, five ties and six losses for 31 points. The team hits the road this Tuesday night (December 21) for a game in Stouffville, and it's a must-win situation if they hope to keep the second place drive alive. MoJacks have won six of their last seven games. MoJacks management is a little miffed at the selection for the annual All-Star game in Bowmanville on Boxing Day. The all-stars were selected by the first place Lindsay club, and just one MoJack was named, Bob Horton. Apparently just one player from Stouffville and Uxbridge was named as well, while four Muskies were selected to meet Bow- manville. It has been the custom for the all-star team to have two players from each team in the league. MoJack manage- ment say there are no written rules about all-star selection, but there has been a verbal protest made to the league. The speedy Horton is a good selection to the all-star team. However, he has been out of the line-up with an ankle injury lately. MoJacks have at least two other players whose per- formance so far this season should qualify them for the (Turnto page 2) after 40 minutes then held on as Bruins came fo life in the final frame. The win keeps MoJacks ahead of Little Britain and. within spitting distance of second place Bowmanville in the Junior C loop.
