SEAM Rn ALA NT RLATHE NER SEAR aS a Bac Ol _-- aA STR tournament in overtime by Dave Dalton In the first showing of Port Perry teams at any tourn- ament three of our six teams made it to the finals and the individual awards were also grabbed by the home side at the Port Perry Tournament on Saturday. The 'B' division final saw Brian's Towing score an up- set victory over Beacocks Hardware by a 3-1 score. Penalties were the Black- stock downfall as 2 of Brian's goals were on the power play with one coming on a 2 man advantage. Bill Fielding assisted Finley Peeters to give Brians an early lead which they built up by the end of the first as Ken St. Amant and Jim O'Neill click- ed on the two man advantage to make it 2-0. With 1:38 to go in the game Tom Wotten blasted a shot into the net to get Blackstock gg the score sheet on a short handed effort. On the ensuring face- off Brians stormed down the ice to douse the fire as O'Neill set-up Lawrence Peeters for the final marker. In what could be described as the ultimate 'A' division final C&B Livestock defeat- ed Brookdale Rangers 5-2 in an exciting overtime finish. These two have long been arch-rivals in this Region and are about par in past performances such as last year whén Brookdale defeat- ed C&B 3-2 in overtime in the 'A' final. Only one goal was scored in the first period as Bill Bridge fed Tim Ash- bridge 5 minutes into the game to give C&B the lead. Early in the second Rangers tied it up as Don Penfold beat Keith Fraser. Thirty seconds later Laval Paulin set up Aldon Smith in front of the net as C&B regained the 2% nN JUNIOR "C" HOCKEY 'SCUGOG ARENA -- PORT PERRY lead. Before the end of the period Brookdale had tied it up to force the 5 minute stop time total goal overtime. Robert Evans and Mark Lee engineered the win as they each scored once and assist- ed on another. Evans aided Bill Bridge before Doug Scott co-operated with Lee. Lee then set up Evans for the finishing touches on the 5-2 win. It was rather befitting to see a Port Perry team defeat Brookdale, as they had dumped three other Port teams throughout the day to get to the final. Other games and scores: In the first game of the day Utica Farm Equipment de- feated Al Burton's Cont. by a 4-0 score with goals going to Chester Down, Jim Mason, Down again, and Richard Honey. Murray Down and Honey picked up 2 assists each. Brookdale downed Utica in their last game by a 3-1 count as Murray Down assisted brother Chester for the lone tally. Enroute to the 'B' division final Beacocks first game saw them lose to Brookdale by a 3-1 tally as Ron Wagg scored from Dave Dalton. their next game was a win as they dropped Al Burtons by a 4-0 decision. The first goal went to Gary Toutant with aid from Terry Black. Dave Dalton scored the next 2 with help from winger Ron Red- man and on the final goal set up Ron Wagg. The semi-final had Beacocks matched against league mates Odd- fellows and came out on top of a 2-1 overtime score. Bea- cocks clicked first as Phil Archer fed Ron Redman for the lead. Oddfellows replied 15 seconds later as Kopie DeJong notched the marker from Ken Bryant. The next opponents MoJacks (From page 18) Wallace's winning marker, with the other MoJacks goal coming off the stick of Dave Kemp, up for the game from the Port Perry Midgets. Derek Edwards is still out of the line-up with a bruised heel suffered in a game December 30. He may sit out a couple more games to give him a chance to fully recover as MoJacks need him healthy when playoffs roll around in three weeks. MoJacks now have 35 points on 15 wins and five ties. With seven games left, the team virtually has no chance of catching second place Bowmanville, but if they are not careful over the next cou- ple of weeks, they could find themselves in fifth spot behind Cobourg. Under the league playoff structure, the fifth place team meets the first place team in the open- ing round. MoJacks have a tough seven games remaining. This Thursday night, they visit Port Hope, and on Sunday at the Scugog Arena will host the first place Lindsay Muskies who have lost just one game all year. And one week from Thursday, they make the trip to the Bowmanville Arena. Eight of the ten teams in the Central Junior C loop will make the first round of the playoffs which start the first week of February. were the Alliston Drifters who went down 1-0 as Art Matthews tallied from Ron Davey. The knockout game came in the semi-final on a valiant effort as they went down to defeat by a 1-0 count to Brookdale who scored that lone goal with just 1:18 to play. The fourth league team to play was the Oddfellows who lost their first encounter to Alliston by a close 2-0 score. In their second game Brians hammered Dundonald Bulls 50 on goals by Lawrence Peeters with a hat trick, Jim O'Neill, and Ken St. Amant.
